Facility centre for cotton-based primary cooperative weaving societies

TIRUCHI: Memorandum of understanding (MOU) to explore possibilities to establish a facility centre for benefit of cotton-based primary cooperative weaving societies will shortly be entered into between Centre for Contemporary Management Research of Bharathidasan Institute of Management with Textiles Committee of Union Ministry of Textiles.
A fullfledged centre has been planned with advanced machinery and equipment for several units such as warping, sizing, designing and quality analysis laboratory by the committee for cotton-based primary cooperative weaving societies in Tiruchi district.
High quality The committee will look into possibilities to ensure manufacturing of high quality cotton goods through these societies, informed S Sundar, Assistant Professor, Postgraduate Programme.
Research centre would identify the right type of machinery to be utilised for setting up the common facility centre, he said.
The study will also look to improve financial management of these societies, he added.
Union Ministry of Textiles had identified 20 centres in country under its Integrated Handloom Cluster Development Programme which includes Tiruchi and Kurunjipadi in Cuddalore district, and Tiruvannamalai.
Training Bharathidasan's expertise in management will be made use of for imparting training in advanced skills to members of societies, said G Ramesh Babu Cluster Development Executive of the Committee.
Associations of master weavers were being formed in several villages in the district with one such unit already formed in Manamedu near Musiri.
