Brazil’s cotton export totalled 1,124.602 million kg ($1,852.078 million) in the first half of 2021. On an annual basis, the exports were 1,803.735 million kg ($3,676.362 million) in 2022, down from 2,016.571 million kg ($3,405.901 million) in 2021. Earlier figures show 2,125.417 million kg ($3,226.916 million) in 2020 and 1,613.670 million kg ($2,640.377 million) in 2019, according to data obtained from Fibre2Fashion's market insight tool TexPro.
The world’s largest cotton exporter, the United States, particularly the Texas region, has experienced volatile weather conditions, potentially affecting its cotton production. Despite this, the US is enjoying significant margins, enhanced by Brazil's reduced shipments.
In the period from January to May 2023, the US exported 1,520.950 million kg of cotton, valued at $3,346.026 million. TexPro's data highlighted the US’ shipment history, noting exports of 3,402.155 million kg ($8,941.101 million) in 2022, 2,960.274 million kg ($5,676.607 million) in 2021, 3,814.683 million kg ($5,950.685 million) in 2020, and 3,560.682 million kg ($6,140.213 million) in 2019.
