The Ludhiana market reported a slight easing of cotton yarn prices, with rates falling by ₹1-2 per kg amid limited buying activity. There was an absence of festival demand from the weaving industry, which contributed to the overall weak demand, dampening market sentiments. A trader from the Ludhiana market told Fibre2Fashion, "Overall, the demand was average. Prices should remain at their current levels, although some trade participants felt pressure, leading to a drop in prices."
According to Fibre2Fashion's market insight tool TexPro, 30-count cotton combed yarn was sold at ₹264-274 per kg (GST inclusive), while 20 and 25-count combed yarn were traded at ₹254-264 per kg and ₹258-268 per kg, respectively in Ludhiana. The price of 30-count carded yarn was noted to be between ₹244 and ₹249 per kg.
However, the Delhi market observed stable cotton yarn prices, with consistent demand coming from the garment industry. A trader from the Delhi market told F2F, "There were no positive signs on the very first day of the new week. Market trends will become clearer in the days ahead. There is no expectation of a significant decline in prices."
In Delhi, 30 count combed yarn was traded at ₹267-272 per kg (GST extra), 40 count combed at ₹297-302 per kg, 30 count carded at ₹237-242 per kg and 40 count carded at ₹267-272 per kg, as per TexPro.
Panipat, India's home furnishing hub, experienced weaker demand for recycled yarn as the market awaits festival demand, which may rise in the coming weeks. In Panipat, 10s recycled PC yarn (Grey) traded at ₹77-82 per kg (GST paid). Other varieties included 10s recycled PC yarn (Black) at ₹50-54 per kg, 20s recycled PC yarn (Grey) at ₹92-97 per kg, and 30s recycled PC yarn (Grey) at ₹135-145 per kg. Comber prices hovered around ₹124-125 per kg. Recycled polyester fibre (made from PET bottles) was priced at ₹78-80 per kg and saw an increase of ₹2-3 per kg, following hikes in the prices of virgin fibre and raw materials by major players.
Old cotton was traded at ₹5,700-5,800 per maund (37.2 kg) in Haryana and Punjab. Last year's cotton was priced at ₹5,950-6,050 per maund in upper Rajasthan and ₹56,000-68,000 per candy (356 kg) in lower Rajasthan. The entire north Indian region saw new cotton trading at ₹6,000-6,025 per maund. A total of 3,500 bales of cotton arrived in north Indian markets. Haryana saw the arrival of 1,000 bales of old cotton and 1,500 bales of new cotton, while Punjab reported the arrival of only 300 bales of new cotton. Around 300 bales of old cotton arrived in upper Rajasthan, and 400 bales of new cotton arrived in lower Rajasthan.
According to traders, the new cotton was traded at a uniform price due to its consistent quality across the region. However, last year's rain-damaged cotton in Haryana and Punjab led to a depreciation in prices throughout the year. Prices showed an upward trend of ₹20-25 per maund owing to strong demand from spinning mills.
