  • Cotton yarn prices in north India have declined by ₹1-3 per kg in Ludhiana and Delhi due to low demand and selling pressure ahead of Diwali.
  • Traders are focusing on clearing stocks to improve cash flow.
  • Despite this dip, demand is expected to rise post-Diwali, especially for summer garments, though price increases may face resistance due to ongoing market challenges.
Cotton yarn prices in north India decreased by ₹1-3 per kg in Ludhiana and Delhi due to subdued demand and selling pressure from mills and stockists aiming to improve liquidity before Diwali. Traders reported that mills and stockists were working to clear stocks to manage cash flow ahead of the festival. Despite the dip, there was cautious optimism among traders and brokers, who anticipate an uptick in demand post-Diwali for summer garments. However, the traders noted that any price increase might be challenging due to lingering negative market factors. Meanwhile, the home textile hub of Panipat saw stable prices for recycled yarn amid limited trade before Diwali.

In Ludhiana, cotton yarn prices fell by ₹2-3 per kg due to weak demand ahead of Diwali. A local trader told Fibre2Fashion, “The market is under pressure as buyers are focusing on finished products rather than raw materials. However, demand is expected to improve after the festival, particularly for summer garmenting.”

In Ludhiana, 30 count cotton combed yarn was sold at ₹257-267 (approximately $3.06-3.18) per kg (inclusive of GST); 20 and 25 count combed yarn were traded at ₹247-257 (approximately $2.94-3.06) per kg and ₹252-262 (approximately $3.00-3.12) per kg, respectively; and carded yarn of 30 count was noted at ₹237-242 (approximately $2.82-2.88) per kg today, according to trade sources.

A similar trend was observed in Delhi, where cotton yarn prices dropped by ₹1-2 per kg. Prices had already softened late last week. A trader remarked that while demand might pick up slightly, selling pressure is expected to persist, driven by external and internal factors, such as geopolitical issues and weak export demand.

In Delhi, 30 count combed knitting yarn was traded at ₹262-264 (approximately $3.12-3.14) per kg (GST extra), 40 count combed at ₹284-292 (approximately $3.38-3.47) per kg, 30 count carded at ₹239-241 (approximately $2.84-2.87) per kg, and 40 count carded at ₹264-267 (approximately $3.14-3.18) per kg today.

Panipat experienced stability in recycled yarn, cotton comber, and recycled polyester fibre prices. Most varieties and counts were traded at previous price levels. Traders observed that the festive season did not significantly boost demand for recycled yarn. After Diwali, recycled yarn may face selling pressure as overall home textile demand is expected to taper. Blankets are likely to remain in demand, but this is unlikely to compensate for lower sales in other home textile items.

In Panipat, 10s recycled PC yarn (Grey) was traded at ₹78-82 (approximately $0.93-0.98) per kg (GST paid). Other varieties and counts were noted at 10s recycled PC yarn (Black) at ₹53-56 (approximately $0.63-0.67) per kg, 20s recycled PC yarn (Grey) at ₹96-102 (approximately $1.14-1.21) per kg and 30s recycled PC yarn (Grey) at ₹130-135 (approximately $1.55-1.61) per kg. Cotton comber prices were noted at ₹100-102 (approximately $1.19-1.21) per kg and recycled polyester fibre (PET bottle fibre) at ₹75-80 (approximately $0.89-0.95) per kg today.

In north India, cotton prices fell further due to weak demand and high arrivals. A recent decline in ICE cotton prices also discouraged domestic buyers. Cotton prices dropped by ₹100-110 per maund (37.2 kg) in the past few days, with farmers increasing supply to meet financial needs before Diwali. Although arrivals are expected to slow down in the coming days, markets will close for several days for the holiday.

North India's cotton arrival rose to 15,200 bales (170 kg each), including 1,200 bales in Punjab, 5,000 in Haryana, 4,000 in upper Rajasthan, and 5,000 in lower Rajasthan. Cotton prices in Punjab ranged from ₹5,690 to ₹5,710 (approximately $67.68-67.91) per maund, while in Haryana, prices were between ₹5,680 and ₹5,690 (approximately $67.56-67.68). Upper Rajasthan cotton was priced at ₹5,670-5,690 (approximately $67.44-67.68) per maund, and in lower Rajasthan, prices were ₹54,200-55,200 (approximately $644.65-656.55) per candy (356 kg). Seed cotton was priced at ₹7,700-8,000 (approximately $86.83-92.78) per quintal (100 kg).
