  • Cotton yarn prices remained stable across north India, with average demand from the weaving industry.
  • In Ludhiana, varied cotton yarn types were traded at specific prices, with better demand for polyester-cotton blends.
  • Delhi's market also saw steady prices and average demand. Panipat's recycled yarn market experienced slow demand and stable prices.
Cotton yarn prices remained stable in various market of north India as demand from weaving industry was average. Traders expect cotton yarn prices to see upward trend when demand picks up. At present, yarn prices are hovering at bottom line. Possible cold wave, driven by heavy snow fall in hilly states and rainy season in plains, will also improve prospects of higher demand. Traders said that the present stock with retailers will get cleared if there is cold wave, which will support buying in the entire value chain. It will generate fresh buying more specifically for woven garments.

In the Ludhiana market, cotton yarn prices did not see any significant movement today. The market has not witnessed major buying from weaving industry. A trader from the Ludhiana market told Fibre2Fashion, “Currently, the market noticed better demand for polyester-cotton yarn. There was average buying of cotton yarn, but recent rains and snow fall will improve market sentiments. It is because retailers will be able to clear their old stock, and have to buy fresh stock, which is better for entire value chain.”

In Ludhiana, 30 count cotton combed yarn was sold at ₹250-260 per kg (GST inclusive); 20 and 25 count combed yarn were traded at ₹240-250 per kg and ₹245-255 per kg respectively; and carded yarn of 30 count was noted at 230-235 per kg, according to Fibre2Fashion’s market insight tool TexPro.

Delhi market also noticed steadiness in cotton yarn prices, with average demand from the downstream industry. A trader from the Delhi market told F2F, “The market did not see any breakthrough. Buyers were looking to buy cotton yarn just for immediate need. Hopefully, cotton yarn demand will pick up in next month.” In this market, 30 count combed yarn was traded at ₹250-255 per kg (GST extra), 40 count combed at ₹75-280 per kg, 30 count carded at ₹227-231 per kg, and 40 count carded at ₹252-255 per kg, as per TexPro.

The recycled yarn market in Panipat witnessed slow demand amid stability in prices. Cotton comber was also traded at previous levels. Limited demand from home textiles industry compensated for a decrease in production of comber. Spinning mills are running at lower capacity due to slow demand from the weaving industry. Therefore, as a by-product, comber production also remained limited.

In Panipat, 10s recycled PC yarn (Grey) was traded at ₹74-78 per kg (GST paid). Other varieties and counts were noted at 10s recycled PC yarn (Black) at ₹49-52 per kg, 20s recycled PC yarn (Grey) at ₹85-90 per kg and 30s recycled PC yarn (Grey) at ₹133-142 per kg. However, cotton comber prices were noted at ₹112-114 per kg. The price of recycled polyester fibre (PET bottle fibre) was noted at ₹67-70 per kg.

In north India, cotton prices remained steady due to slow buying from spinning mills. Punjab and nearby regions received light or heavy rains which also dampened market sentiments. According to traders, trading activities get effected during rains because of fear of damage to the natural fibre. Total cotton arrivals in north India reduced to 20,000 bales of 170 kg each. State-wise arrivals were noted as: Punjab 2,000 bales, Haryana 7,000 bales, upper Rajasthan 6,000, and lower Rajasthan 5,000 bales. Cotton was priced in Punjab at ₹5,325-5,425 and in Haryana at ₹5,300-5,400, upper Rajasthan at ₹5,325-5,500 per maund of 37.2 kg. Cotton of better quality was sold up to ₹5,500 per maund. In lower Rajasthan, cotton was priced at ₹53,000-54,000 per candy of 356 kg.
