Cotton yarn prices steady in north India despite fall in cotton fibre

Cotton yarn prices in north India did not experience any significant movement due to average demand and a declining trend in the natural fibre. The raw material traded at previous levels in Ludhiana and Delhi. Spinning mills did not reduce yarn prices following a decrease in cotton prices. Its prices had noted a drop of ₹2-4 per kg due to concerns regarding the Iran-Israel conflict and lower cotton prices. The recycled yarn market in Panipat also showed steadiness in most counts and varieties. Both cotton comber and recycled polyester fibre remained stable.

Cotton yarn traded stably in the Ludhiana market amid average demand. Mills did not pass on the price fall in cotton as there was no pressure to sell their production. However, stockists and traders were selling the product at comfortable levels. A trader from the Ludhiana market told Fibre2Fashion, "The market witnessed average demand as buyers were cautious about new purchases. They expected an ease in cotton prices. The mills’ strategy supported cotton yarn prices to stay at the current level. The fabric and garment industry were concerned about the current geopolitical situation.”

In Ludhiana, 30 count cotton combed yarn was sold at ₹270-280 (approximately $3.24-3.36) per kg (inclusive of GST); 20 and 25 count combed yarn were traded at ₹260-270 (approximately $3.12-3.24) per kg and ₹265-275 (approximately $3.18-3.30) per kg, respectively; and 30 count carded yarn was noted at ₹250-256 (approximately $3.00-3.07) per kg today, according to trade sources.

Cotton yarn prices also remained stable in the Delhi market. According to market sources, export demand was uncertain because of the current global situation. The market focused more on domestic manufacturing and trading activities. Fabric manufacturers ensured steady demand. Today, in this market, 30 count combed yarn was traded at ₹275-278 (approximately $3.30-3.33) per kg (GST extra), 40 count combed at ₹300-305 (approximately $3.60-3.66) per kg, 30 count carded at ₹250-255 (approximately $3.00-3.06) per kg, and 40 count carded at ₹278-281 (approximately $3.33-3.37) per kg.

Panipat's recycled yarn market saw better demand from north Indian states, although prices did not experience significant movement. Cotton comber and recycled polyester fibre remained steady today.

In Panipat, 10s recycled PC yarn (Grey) traded at ₹78-82 (approximately $0.94-0.98) per kg (GST paid). Other varieties and counts were noted at 10s recycled PC yarn (Black) at ₹53-56 (approximately $0.64-0.67) per kg, 20s recycled PC yarn (Grey) at ₹90-95 (approximately 1.08-1.14) per kg and 30s recycled PC yarn (Grey) at ₹128-132 (approximately $1.54-1.58) per kg. Cotton comber prices were noted at ₹113-115 (approximately $1.35-1.38) per kg and recycled polyester fibre (PET bottle fibre) at ₹74-77 (approximately $0.90-0.93) per kg today, as per market sources.

In north India, cotton prices have seen a steep fall of ₹150-175 per maund of 37.2 kg over the last couple of days. Traders stated that domestic cotton prices have followed a declining trend in ICE cotton, which has reached multi-month lows due to various factors. Local mills were not interested in new purchases.

Today's cotton arrivals decreased to 2,700 bales of 170 kg in north India. State-wise arrivals were as follows: 300 bales in Punjab, 1,000 bales in Haryana, 800 bales in upper Rajasthan, and 600 bales in lower Rajasthan. Cotton prices in Punjab ranged from ₹5,750 to ₹5,800 (approximately $68.84-69.43) per maund of 37.2 kg, while in Haryana, prices ranged from ₹5,700 to ₹5,800 (approximately $68.24-69.43). In upper Rajasthan, cotton was priced between ₹5,625 and ₹5,825 (approximately $67.34-69.73) per maund. Bikaner line cotton sold for ₹5,800 to ₹5,900 (approximately $69.43-70.63) per maund. In lower Rajasthan, cotton was priced at ₹55,500 to ₹57,600 (approximately $664.41-688.35) per candy of 356 kg.
