Cotton yarn prices remained stable in the Delhi market after a rise of ₹3 per kg at the beginning of this week. Demand from the consumer industry remained average but could not support a price rise. A trader from the Delhi market told Fibre2Fashion, "The market was unable to absorb the price rise. Mills wanted to raise their mill rate, but bearish demand did not allow them. They are feeling pressure on their margins as cotton prices rise day by day.”
In this market, 30 count combed knitting yarn was traded at ₹266-268 (approximately $3.19-3.21) per kg (GST extra), 40 count combed at ₹286-293 (approximately $3.43-3.51) per kg, 30 count carded at ₹241-243 (approximately $2.89-2.91) per kg, and 40 count carded at ₹266-269 (approximately $3.19-3.22) per kg today.
The Ludhiana market did not see any movement in cotton yarn prices despite a rise in the natural fibre. The market had seen a rise in prices last week when the government had hiked MSP for the coming season. According to trade sources, cotton yarn demand from the consumer industry continued to be bearish. Export demand also declined due to the steep rise in container freight charges after Houthi attacks in the Suez Canal. Therefore, spinning mills failed to pass on the increase in cotton prices to their buyers.
In Ludhiana, 30 count cotton combed yarn was sold at ₹265-275 (approximately $3.18-3.30) per kg (inclusive of GST); 20 and 25 count combed yarn were traded at ₹255-265 (approximately $3.06-3.18) per kg and ₹260-270 (approximately $3.12-3.24) per kg, respectively; and carded yarn of 30 count was noted at ₹245-250 (approximately $2.94-3.00) per kg today, according to trade sources.
Recycled PC yarn prices have seen a rise of ₹2-3 per kg in the last couple of days. However, cotton comber and recycled polyester fibre were traded steadily in Panipat. Trade sources said that the increase in prices of recycled polyester fibre was considered the apparent reason for the current price rise. Retail demand for home textiles is improving gradually. The festival season is approaching, and export demand is also likely to improve in the coming months.
In Panipat, 10s recycled PC yarn (Grey) was traded at ₹80-84 (approximately $0.96-1.01) per kg (GST paid). Other varieties and counts were noted at 10s recycled PC yarn (Black) at ₹53-56 (approximately $0.63-0.67) per kg, 20s recycled PC yarn (Grey) at ₹94-100 (approximately 1.13-1.20) per kg and 30s recycled PC yarn (Grey) at ₹130-135 (approximately $1.56-1.62) per kg. Cotton comber prices were noted at ₹112-114 (approximately $1.34-1.37) per kg and recycled polyester fibre (PET bottle fibre) at ₹80-84 (approximately $0.96-1.01) per kg today.
In north India, cotton prices continued to rise today. Prices gained a further ₹25 per maund of 37.2 kg due to limited availability and good demand from spinning mills. Traders said that seed cotton arrival further reduced from farmers. Ginners, stockists, and MNCs are selling cotton from their stocks. They are selling cotton at their own prices. As small spinners did not have much stock, they are bound to buy the natural fibre to run their production in the off-arrival season.
Today's arrivals were 300 bales of 170 kg in north India. State-wise arrivals were as follows 300 bales in Haryana, 50 bales in upper Rajasthan, and 50 bales in lower Rajasthan. Cotton prices in Punjab ranged from ₹5,875 to ₹5,900 (approximately $70.36-70.66) per maund of 37.2 kg, while in Haryana, prices ranged from ₹5,775 to ₹5,875 (approximately $69.16-70.36). In upper Rajasthan, cotton was priced between ₹5,600 and ₹5,900 (approximately $67.07-70.66) per maund. Bikaner line cotton sold for ₹5,875 to ₹5,975 (approximately $70.36-71.56) per maund. In lower Rajasthan, cotton was priced at ₹54,300 to ₹57,500 (approximately $650.30-688.62) per candy of 356 kg.
