  • Increased demand for cotton yarn has been noted in north India, although prices remained stable.
  • Both Ludhiana and Delhi markets reported a steady trend in cotton yarn prices, with some increase in buying.
  • Despite a lack of upward movement in recycled yarn prices in Panipat, recycled polyester fibre prices are expected to rise in the coming weeks.
The North India cotton yarn market has seen increased buying interest, even though cotton yarn prices have stayed steady. Traders stated that mills anticipate a rise in yarn prices following a sustained increase in cotton costs. They believe that as prices bottom out, yarn prices will receive support. The weaving industry is expected to increase purchasing in anticipation of the upcoming festival season, which should also support yarn prices.

In the Ludhiana market, cotton yarn prices have remained steady, but buying interest has slightly increased. A trader from the Ludhiana market told Fibre2Fashion, “Cotton yarn prices did not rise due to the slow improvement in demand from the weaving industry.”

In this market, 30-count cotton combed yarn sold for ₹253-263 per kg (GST inclusive), while 20 and 25-count combed yarn traded at ₹242-247 per kg and ₹247-252 per kg, respectively. A 30-count carded yarn was available for ₹232-242 per kg, according to Fibre2Fashion’s market insight tool TexPro.

Similarly, the Delhi market saw stable cotton yarn prices, but with better demand. Despite the increased demand, prices remained unchanged. A trader from the Delhi market told F2F, “The market has been noticing increased demand from downstream industries. However, the abundance of availability did not allow prices to rise. But cotton yarn prices may increase when festival demand picks up.”

In Delhi, 30-count combed yarn traded for ₹260-262 per kg (GST extra), 40-count combed for ₹290-292 per kg, 30-count carded for ₹232-235 per kg, and 40-count carded for ₹262-265 per kg, according to TexPro.

On the other hand, the Panipat market's recycled yarn segment did not see any positive trends, with prices remaining at previous levels. Cotton comber and recycled polyester fibre also maintained their stability. However, traders anticipate an increase in the price of recycled polyester fibre in the coming weeks. It has already seen an increase of ₹1 per kg in the market at the beginning of this week.

In Panipat, 10s recycled PC yarn (grey) was traded at ₹77-82 per kg (GST paid). Other varieties and counts were noted at 10s recycled PC yarn (black) at ₹50-54 per kg, 20s recycled PC yarn (grey) at ₹92-97 per kg and 30s recycled PC yarn (grey) at ₹135-145 per kg. Comber prices were hovering at ₹180-120 per kg. Recycled polyester fibre (PET bottle fibre) was noted at ₹71-73 per kg.

North Indian cotton prices saw a further increase due to a stronger ICE cotton market and MNC's buying for new season cotton. Cotton prices rose by ₹75-100 per maund of 37.2 kg across north Indian markets. As per trade sources, ginners are selling 80% of their cotton stock due to the negligible arrival of unginned cotton (Kapas). Due to the continued rise in ICE cotton, ginners have raised their offer prices. The ICE cotton December 2023 contract closed at $83.81 per pound. Cotton arrivals were estimated to be 700-800 bales of 170 kg in the north India region. Cotton was traded at ₹5,925-6,025 per maund in Punjab, ₹5,725-5,825 per maund in Haryana and ₹6,000-6,150 per maund in upper Rajasthan and at ₹55,200-56,700 per candy of 356 kg in lower Rajasthan.
