  • India's man-made fibre yarn markets, including polyester, PC and viscose, are experiencing a price drop due to slow demand and cheaper raw materials, with decreases of ₹2-3 per kg.
  • Crude oil price reductions have made polyester cheaper, further impacting prices.
  • Ludhiana and Mumbai markets saw declines, while Surat noted stability in polyester yarn.
India’s man-made fibre yarn markets, including polyester and polyester-cotton, continued to experience a downward trend. The decline in demand and cheaper raw materials led to a decrease of ₹2-3 per kg in the prices of polyester-cotton (PC), polyester and viscose yarns. Market experts attributed this to a drop in global crude oil prices, which made polyester cheaper. Additionally, a reduction in cotton prices contributed to the decline in polyester-cotton yarn prices. The Ludhiana market reported losses in polyester-cotton and polyester yarns, while the viscose yarn market eased in Mumbai and Surat. However, the polyester yarn market in Surat remained stable.

In Ludhiana, both polyester-cotton and polyester yarn prices declined by ₹2-3 per kg over the past week. Virgin polyester fibre is expected to see a rate cut this Friday, while recycled polyester fibre has already decreased by ₹2 per kg. A trader from Ludhiana stated to Fibre2Fashion, “The drop in crude oil prices has made polyester raw materials cheaper. The market is already facing slow demand from the downstream industry. This bearish trend may continue for the next few weeks.”

In Ludhiana, 30 count PC combed yarn (48/52) traded at ₹214-224 (approximately $2.56-2.68) per kg (GST inclusive); 30 count PC carded yarn (65/35) at ₹202-212 (approximately $2.41-2.53) per kg; 20 recycled polyester fibre yarn at ₹114-125 (approximately $1.36-1.49) per kg; 30 count polyester spun at ₹166-174 (approximately $1.98-2.08) per kg (GST inclusive); and recycled polyester fibre (PET bottle fibre) at ₹79-81 (approximately $0.94-0.97) per kg.

In Surat, most varieties and counts of polyester yarn remained stable. Market sources indicated that polyester yarn is under dual pressure from slow demand and cheaper raw materials, yet prices have remained almost stable.

In Surat market, 30 count polyester spun yarn was traded at ₹148-149 (approximately $1.77-1.78) per kg (GST extra); 40 count poly spun yarn at ₹162-163 (approximately $1.94-1.95) per kg; 50/48 fully drawn yarn (FDY) at ₹120-121 (approximately $1.43-1.45) per kg; 75/72 FDY at ₹109-110 (approximately $1.30-1.31) per kg; 75 bright yarn at ₹108-109 (approximately $1.29-1.30) per kg.

Viscose yarn prices decreased by ₹2 per kg in the Surat and Mumbai markets. Trade sources attributed this to slower demand, which forced stockists, importers, and millers to reduce viscose yarn prices. There were no positive signs in the fabric and garment markets, although traders anticipated an increase in demand during the upcoming festival season.

In Mumbai, imported 30 count viscose vortex yarn was priced at ₹196-202 (approximately $2.34-2.41) per kg; and local 30 count ring-spun viscose yarn at ₹203-208 (approximately $2.43-2.48) per kg in this market. In Surat, 30 viscose compact yarn (local) was sold at ₹206-208 (approximately $2.46-2.48) per kg (GST extra) and 30 viscose vortex yarn at ₹202-204 (approximately $2.34-2.44) per kg.

In north India, cotton prices dropped by approximately 1 per cent following a steep fall in ICE cotton prices. Prices fell by ₹50 per maund of 37.2 kg. Traders reported that buyers were absent due to the declining trend in the US cotton market, dampening local market sentiments despite slow arrivals. Demand also slowed as buyers stayed away from the declining market.

Today's arrivals were 500 bales of 170 kg in north India, with state-wise arrivals as follows: 400 bales in Haryana, 50 bales in upper Rajasthan, and 50 bales in lower Rajasthan. Cotton prices in Punjab ranged from ₹5,875 to ₹5,900 (approximately $70.18-70.48) per maund of 37.2 kg, while in Haryana, prices ranged from ₹5,775 to ₹5,800 (approximately $68.99-59.29). In upper Rajasthan, cotton was priced between ₹5,600 and ₹5,900 (approximately $66.90-70.48) per maund. Bikaner line cotton sold for ₹5,875 to ₹5,975 (approximately $70.18-71.38) per maund. In lower Rajasthan, cotton was priced at ₹54,700 to ₹57,700 (approximately $653.47-689.30) per candy of 356 kg.
