  • In Ludhiana and Delhi, cotton yarn prices dropped by ₹2-4 per kg since Thursday.
  • Buyers are cautious, delaying purchases amid geopolitical uncertainties, affecting garment and textile exports.
  • ICE cotton price drop has also contributed to the decline.
North India's cotton yarn prices have been affected by the Iran-Israel conflict, which has sent shockwaves through various markets worldwide. In Ludhiana and Delhi, cotton yarn prices have decreased by ₹2-4 per kg since Thursday. Market experts suggest that buyers are hesitant to make new purchases as they await clearer indications of the geopolitical situation.

There are concerns about potential further weakening in garment and textile exports due to the new tensions. The falling ICE cotton prices have also negatively impacted the cotton yarn market. However, in Panipat, there was a mixed trend in recycled yarn and raw materials due to geopolitical developments and increased demand during the summer from Uttar Pradesh. Cotton comber prices have decreased due to a drop in natural fibre prices.

In the Ludhiana market, most counts and varieties of cotton yarn saw a decline of ₹3-4 per kg. Stockists and traders are reducing their stock by lowering prices. However, mills have not reduced their product prices. A trader from the Ludhiana market told Fibre2Fashion, "Cotton yarn prices have dropped as concerns about a slowdown in export demand following the new conflict between Iran and Israel persist. The continuous fall in ICE cotton prices is also a dampening factor for the cotton yarn market."

In Ludhiana, 30 count cotton combed yarn is currently selling for ₹270-280 per kg (approximately $3.24-3.36, inclusive of GST); 20 and 25 count combed yarn are traded at ₹260-270 (approximately $3.12-3.24) per kg and ₹265-275 (approximately $3.18-3.30) per kg, respectively; and 30 count carded yarn is priced at ₹250-256 (approximately $3.00-3.07) per kg, according to Fibre2Fashion's market insight tool TexPro.

Cotton yarn prices have also decreased by ₹2-3 per kg in the Delhi market, reflecting a downward trend over the past few days. A Delhi market trader explained to Fibre2Fashion, "Sellers are not interested in holding their stock. They prefer to sell cotton yarn at lower prices. Although mills are holding their prices steady, they are waiting for further developments on the geopolitical front. If global tensions ease in the next few days, the market may recover."

Today, in Delhi, 30 count combed yarn is being traded at ₹275-278 (approximately $3.30-3.33) per kg (GST extra), 40 count combed at ₹300-305 (approximately $3.60-3.66) per kg, 30 count carded at ₹250-255 (approximately $3.00-3.06) per kg, and 40 count carded at ₹278-281 (approximately $3.33-3.37) per kg, as per TexPro.

Panipat's recycled yarn market has seen improved buying from Uttar Pradesh. Recycled yarn prices rose last week, and although they did not increase further, recycled polyester fibre prices surged due to a rise in crude oil prices following global tensions. Trade sources noted strong demand for bedsheets from Uttar Pradesh, which are popular during the summer season. This demand supported recycled yarn prices last week. The increase in crude oil prices drove up polyester staple fibre (PSF) prices, causing a rise in recycled polyester fibre by ₹2-3 per kg, while cotton comber prices eased by ₹2-3 per kg following a continuous drop in natural fibre.

In Panipat, 10s recycled PC yarn (Grey) traded at ₹78-82 (approximately $0.94-0.98) per kg (GST paid). Other varieties and counts were noted at 10s recycled PC yarn (Black) at ₹53-56 (approximately $0.64-0.67) per kg, 20s recycled PC yarn (Grey) at ₹90-95 (approximately 1.08-1.14) per kg and 30s recycled PC yarn (Grey) at ₹128-132 (approximately $1.54-1.58) per kg. Cotton comber prices is at ₹113-115 (approximately $1.35-1.38) per kg and recycled polyester fibre (PET bottle fibre) at ₹75-78 (approximately $0.90-0.93) per kg today, as per TexPro.

North India cotton prices continue to decline due to slow demand and weakness in ICE cotton. Prices have dropped by ₹75-100 per maund of 37.2 kg in the last few days. Traders say spinning mills are hesitant to make new purchases due to uncertainty in the global textile trade.

Today's arrivals were recorded at 4,500 bales, each weighing 170 kg. The state-wise distribution was as follows: Punjab received 400 bales, Haryana 2,000 bales, upper Rajasthan 1,500 bales, and lower Rajasthan 600 bales. In Punjab, cotton prices ranged from ₹5,825 to ₹5,850 (approximately $69.81-$70.11) per maund of 37.2 kg. In Haryana, the prices varied from ₹5,725 to ₹5,825 (approximately $68.61-$69.81). In upper Rajasthan, cotton was priced between ₹5,700 and ₹5,900 (approximately $68.31-$70.71) per maund. Bikaner line cotton sold for ₹5,825 to ₹5,925 (approximately $69.81-$71.01) per maund. In lower Rajasthan, cotton was priced between ₹56,300 and ₹58,300 (approximately $674.74-$698.71) per candy of 356 kg.
