The largest textile mill in the world for spinning coloured yarn opened recently in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. Constructed with an investment of $735 million, the mill in Aksu, owned by Huafu Fashion Co. Ltd., world's largest supplier of melange yarn, will witness a million spindles installed by the end of the year.

The company has also built a dyeing industrial park in Aksu, which is designed with a capacity for dyeing and printing 100,000 tonnes of cotton yarn annually, according to media reports in China.

The factories are not merely textile-producing facilities, but also boasted a fashion designing, developing platform and intelligent and digital machines for developing environment-friendly textiles, company chairman Sun Weiting said.

Aksu, Kashgar and Hotan in southern Xinjiang are major cotton producers. Aksu's long-staple cotton output accounts for 93 per cent of the country's total. (DS)
