The viscose yarn market in Surat and Mumbai is facing pressure due to lacklustre festival demand. Some traders attribute this strain to overproduction within the country.
The Ludhiana market has recorded a downward trend in the prices of PC and poly-spun yarn. According to traders, the market is grappling with a financial crunch due to significant fabric imports. One trader told Fibre2Fashion, "The prices of PC and poly-spun yarn have fallen due to decreased demand from the weaving industry. Buyers are hesitant because of the payment crunch, while unchecked fabric imports continue to flow into the country."
PC yarn and poly spun yarn were sold at ₹2-3 per kg less in the Ludhiana market. The 30 count PC combed yarn (48/52) traded at ₹195-205 per kg (GST inclusive), 30 count PC carded yarn (65/35) at ₹182-192 per kg, and 30 count poly spun was priced at ₹156-166 per kg (GST inclusive) in the north Indian market. Recycled polyester fibre (PET bottle fibre) was quoted at ₹74-76 per kg, according to Fibre2Fashion’s market insight tool TexPro.
In Surat, the market for polyester spun and viscose yarn has shown a steady trend. Traders report better buying of polyester spun yarn, as the winter season is expected to boost demand for polyester garments. On the other hand, viscose yarn is facing downward pressure due to limited festival demand. The 30-count poly-spun yarn traded at ₹141-142 per kg (GST extra), and 40-count poly-spun yarn at ₹156-157 per kg. Meanwhile, 30-count local viscose compact yarn traded at ₹205-206 per kg (GST extra), easing by ₹1-2 per kg due to weak demand.
The Mumbai market has also observed a weakness in viscose yarn prices amid poor demand. Trade sources indicated that prices are not finding support from buyers, as demand remains subdued. One trader noted that the limited festival demand has now passed, and the industry fulfilled this demand from existing stock. Prices for viscose yarn remained steady in Mumbai; imported viscose vertex yarn was priced at ₹187-192 per kg, while local ring-spun viscose yarn was quoted at ₹202-204 per kg, according to TexPro.
In north India, cotton prices have remained stable despite increased arrivals. Traders report that 20,000 bales of 170 kg each have arrived in the region. With the onset of a new season, buyers are eager to replenish their stocks. Cotton yarn prices, however, have remained at previous levels but have seen a downward trend in recent trading sessions. State-wise arrivals were as follows: Punjab recorded 3,000 bales, Haryana 9,000 bales, upper Rajasthan 4,000 bales, and lower Rajasthan 4,000 bales. Price levels were ₹6,050-6,100 per maund in Punjab, ₹6,000-6,030 in Haryana, and ₹5,925-6,025 in upper Rajasthan. Lower Rajasthan noted prices at ₹58,000-59,500 per candy of 356 kg.
