Cotton yarn prices have exhibited a mixed trend in north India. Prices have improved in Delhi, but they remained bearish in Ludhiana. Although cotton prices have seen a constant rise in the recent past, yarn has not received support due to poor lifting from the weaving industry. Spinning mills have been trying to pass on the additional cost of production, causing a rise in the prices of cotton yarn by ₹3 per kg. However, the Ludhiana market registered a downward trend due to soft demand.

The Delhi market witnessed a rise of ₹3 per kg in cotton yarn prices. Mills were trying to pass on additional production costs, as cotton has seen a steep rise in the recent past. A trader from the Delhi market told Fibre2Fashion, “Costlier raw material and weak demand from the downstream industry put spinning mills in an odd position. Cotton yarn prices gained in Delhi as mills increased prices to cover the additional cost.”

In Delhi, 30 count combed yarn was traded at ₹269-271 per kg (GST extra), 40 count combed at ₹299-301 per kg, 30 count carded at ₹241-245 per kg, and 40 count carded at ₹271-275 per kg, according to Fibre2Fashion’s market insight tool TexPro.

The Ludhiana market, however, noticed a bearish trend in cotton yarn. Slower demand from the domestic downstream industry put pressure on traders and stockists to lower the prices. Cotton yarn eased by ₹1 per kg. A trader from the Ludhiana market told F2F, “Domestic demand was not supportive in the market. There was export buying, but limited quantities of export orders could not support market demand.” In this market, 30 count cotton combed yarn was sold at ₹259-269 per kg (GST inclusive); 20 and 25 count combed yarn were traded at ₹249-259 per kg and ₹254-264 per kg, respectively; and carded yarn of 30 count was noted at ₹239-244 per kg, as per TexPro.

The Panipat market witnessed a steady trend in recycled yarn and cotton comber amid weaker demand. However, recycled polyester fibre traded higher after a rise in virgin fibre. Trade sources said the home furnishing sector had not yet witnessed better demand. Both exports and domestic demand remained poor. But a recent rise in virgin polyester fibre and raw material by Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) drove prices of recycled yarn by ₹2 per kg.

In Panipat, 10s recycled PC yarn (grey) was traded at ₹77-82 per kg (GST paid). Other varieties and counts were noted at 10s recycled PC yarn (black) ₹50-54 per kg, 20s recycled PC yarn (grey) at ₹92-97 per kg and 30s recycled PC yarn (grey) at ₹135-145 per kg. Comber prices was hovering at ₹126-128 per kg. Recycled polyester fibre (PET bottle fibre) was noted at ₹74-76 per kg.

North Indian cotton prices eased by ₹25 per maund of 37.2 kg. Millers’ demand slowed down at higher prices. Spinning mills faced costlier cotton due to stronger ICE cotton but were unable to raise yarn prices due to slow demand from the weaving industry. ICE cotton recovered today after an earlier decline. According to trade sources, mostly stocked cotton was traded in the north Indian market as arrivals reduced to negligible. Cotton was traded at ₹6,000-6,100 per maund of 37.2 kg in Punjab, ₹5,825-5,925 per maund in Haryana and ₹6,150-6,250 per maund in upper Rajasthan. It was sold at ₹57,000-58,500 per candy of 356 kg in lower Rajasthan.
