Cotton yarn prices in north India showed a mixed trend amid sluggish demand. Prices eased by ₹2 per kg in the Delhi market, while they remained steady in Ludhiana amid slow buying and trading activities. Delhi is experiencing tight payment conditions, as cash flow has not improved from exports, as per market sources. The Delhi cotton yarn market often takes cues from export demand. Meanwhile, recycled yarn prices witnessed stability in Panipat, India’s hub for home textiles, while recycled polyester fibre prices saw a slight increase.

In Delhi, prices for most counts and varieties of cotton yarn dropped and demand from the export value chain remained subdued. A local trader told Fibre2Fashion, “There has been no improvement in export demand or payment flows. The US economy may see a boost following Donald Trump’s win and potential policy changes, but such optimism has not been reflected in the garment and textile industry in India or globally.”

In this market, 30 count combed knitting yarn was traded at ₹260-262 (approximately $3.08-3.11) per kg (GST extra), 40 count combed at ₹282-290 (approximately $3.34-3.44) per kg, 30 count carded at ₹237-239 (approximately $2.81-2.83) per kg, and 40 count carded at ₹262-265 (approximately $3.11-3.14) per kg today.

In Ludhiana, cotton yarn prices remained unchanged due to weak demand. Traders expect an improvement in the coming weeks with the onset of summer. One trader noted that weather conditions are crucial for retail demand. If temperatures drop significantly, stocks of woollen and non-woollen garments may sell out quickly, boosting payment flows and fabric demand.

Today, in Ludhiana, 30 count cotton combed yarn was sold at ₹258-268 (approximately $3.06-3.18) per kg (inclusive of GST); 20 and 25 count combed yarn were traded at ₹248-258 (approximately $2.94-3.06) per kg and ₹253-263 (approximately $3.00-3.12) per kg, respectively; and carded yarn of 30 count was noted at ₹238-243 (approximately $2.82-2.88) per kg, according to trade sources.

Panipat is also awaiting the arrival of colder weather, which could boost sales of blankets and woollen clothing. Trade activity has been limited as consumer industries in states like Uttar Pradesh and Bihar await full-scale production resumption post-Diwali. Recycled yarn prices remained stable, with cotton comber prices unchanged. However, recycled polyester fibre prices increased by ₹2 per kg due to higher PET bottle costs.

In Panipat, 10s recycled PC yarn (Grey) was traded at ₹78-82 (approximately $0.92-0.97) per kg (GST paid). Other varieties and counts were noted at 10s recycled PC yarn (Black) at ₹53-56 (approximately $0.63-0.66) per kg, 20s recycled PC yarn (Grey) at ₹96-102 (approximately 1.14-1.21) per kg and 30s recycled PC yarn (Grey) at ₹130-135 (approximately $1.54-1.60) per kg. Cotton comber prices were noted at ₹100-102 (approximately $1.19-1.21) per kg and recycled polyester fibre (PET bottle fibre) at ₹77-82 (approximately $0.91-0.97) per kg today.

In north India, cotton prices increased slightly following a rise in ICE cotton futures, gaining ₹15-20 per maund (37.2 kg). Trade sources indicated that cotton arrivals in north India remain slow as farmers are prioritising paddy sales at government procurement centres. Seed cotton sales are expected to pick up over the next month. Although domestic and international textile demand is currently subdued, limited cotton arrivals have prevented prices from surging.

Cotton arrivals in north India dropped to 12,500 bales of 170 kg each, comprising 500 bales in Punjab, 4,000 bales in Haryana, 3,500 bales in upper Rajasthan, and 4,500 bales in lower Rajasthan. Cotton prices in Punjab ranged from ₹5,695 to ₹5,715 (approximately $67.50-67.73) per maund of 37.2 kg, while in Haryana, prices were ₹5,685-5,700 (approximately $67.38-67.56). Prices in upper Rajasthan ranged from ₹5,695 to ₹5,710 (approximately $67.50-67.67) per maund. In lower Rajasthan, prices were ₹54,000-55,200 (approximately $640.00-654.22) per candy (356 kg). Seed cotton was priced at ₹7,800-8,100 (approximately $92.44-96.00) per quintal (100 kg).
