Asia continues to be the largest market for Chinese yarn

Asia, particularly Asean and South Asian regions, continues to be the largest market for Chinese yarn, according to Chinese customs statistics.
 
From January to June 2013, China exported 1.812 million tons of yarn, showing a rise of 9.5 percent year-on-year. These were valued at US$ 6.25 billion, registering an increase of 5.2 percent year-on-year. The average export price per unit worked out to US$ 3.45 per kg, down 4 percent year-on-year.
 
During the six-month period, China’s yarn exports to Asia were worth US$ 4.48 billion, accounting for 71.7 percent share of exports of yarn.
 
China’s yarn exports to Asean continued to grow steadily, and one of the biggest increases was exports to Singapore, which were up 117.8 percent year-on-year.
 
Yarn exports from China to Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia and Cambodia too grew by 13.1 percent year-on-year, 12.5 percent, 18.4 percent and 51.2 percent, respectively, during the first six months of the current year.
 
However, yarn exports to Vietnam slumped by 21.2 percent year-on-year during the period under review.
 
Similarly, China’s yarn exports to South Asian countries of Bangladesh, India and Pakistan increased by 24.3 percent year-on-year, 36.3 percent, and 7.6 percent, respectively, during the period.
 
Exports of yarn from China to Japan were down by 14.1 percent year-on-year, while those to North America dipped 8.3 percent, during January to June 2013.
 
Yarn exports to Latin American countries and the EU rose by 4.3 percent year-on-year and 14.5 percent, respectively, during the same period.
