Spinners & Weavers Association of Korea (SWAK) mills produced 109,192 tons of yarn during the Jan-June, 2006 period, a decline of 13.7 percent compared to the corresponding period last year. The output in June alone was 18,336 tons, a decline of 14.7 percent against the previous year.
The production of yarn has somewhat stabilized after it dipped to record low in January. 1,239,000 spindles were operational at SWAK mills by the end of June which is a 13.8 percent decline from the same period a year ago.
