According to data statistics of the China Textile Industry Association, in June 2009, national production of cotton yarn reached 1.71 million tons. Three provinces; Shandong, Jiangsu and Henan accounted for nearly 70 percent of this production.

Of which, output of Shandong Province formed over 30 percent of the country's total output. From January to June in 2009, national cotton production totaled 8.5 million tons, and production from these three and two other provinces accounted for 78 percent of output.

It is worthy to note that despite the ongoing global recessionary trends, national yarn production has been able to achieve a growth rate of 9.4 percent in the first six months of 2009, when compared with the same period of 2008.
