  • Cotton yarn prices in Delhi and Ludhiana remained steady despite a dip in raw cotton costs, amid average demand and Eid-related production slowdowns.
  • Panipat saw a slight increase in recycled yarn prices, anticipating post-Eid demand boosts.
  • In north India, cotton prices dropped following ICE trends, with a slight decline in domestic rates.
Cotton yarn prices remained steady in Delhi and Ludhiana despite ease in prices of the natural fibre. Traders said that demand was average as manufacturing activities are slow due to Eid festival. There were expectations that demand may improve in the next week when workers return back to work after holiday. On steadiness in yarn prices, market experts said that spinning mills have sufficient export orders for the next 45-60 days. Therefore, they are not interested to sell cotton yarn at lower price.  Panipat’s recycled yarn prices were slightly up as the market expected better buying after Eid festival. Recycled yarn prices gained ₹2-3 per kg for several counts and varieties.

Ludhiana market witnessed steadiness in cotton yarn prices amid average demand from the downstream industry. A trader from the Ludhiana market told Fibre2Fashion, “There was moderate demand for cotton yarn. Manufacturing activities may pick up next week, which may boost buying in cotton yarn. Mills were not feeling pressure, so they were not keen to offer lower prices. Market prices of cotton yarn are already hovering ₹10 per kg below than mill rates.” In Ludhiana, 30 count cotton combed yarn was sold at ₹274-284 (approximately $3.29-3.41) per kg (inclusive of GST); 20 and 25 count combed yarn were traded at ₹263-274 (approximately $3.16-3.29) per kg and ₹270-280 (approximately $3.24-3.36) per kg, respectively; and carded yarn of 30 count was noted at ₹254-261 (approximately $3.05-3.13) per kg today, according to Fibre2Fashion’s market insight tool TexPro.

Cotton yarn prices were noted at previous level in Delhi market also. Demand was not very encouraging from consumer industry, exporters and stockists. A trader from Delhi market told Fibre2Fashion, “Mills were trying to maintain yarn prices despite fall in cotton prices. They were focusing on increasing their margins as they had to face losses in the recent past.” In this market, 30 count combed yarn was traded at ₹278-281 (approximately $3.34-3.37) per kg (GST extra), 40 count combed at ₹303-308 (approximately $3.64-3.70) per kg, 30 count carded at ₹253-258 (approximately $3.04-3.10) per kg, and 40 count carded at ₹280-283 (approximately $3.36-3.40) per kg today.

However, Panipat’s recycled yarn market broke long silence as prices gained ₹2-3 per kg in the last couple of days. According to trade sources, there were expectations of better production activities from next week as Muslim workers will come back after festival holiday. Domestic demand may pick up for home textile products like curtains, bedsheets etc. In Panipat, 10s recycled PC yarn (Grey) was traded at ₹78-82 (approximately $0.94-0.98) per kg (GST paid). Other varieties and counts were noted as: 10s recycled PC yarn (Black) at ₹53-56 (approximately $0.64-0.67) per kg, 20s recycled PC yarn (Grey) at ₹90-95 (approximately $1.08-1.14) per kg and 30s recycled PC yarn (Grey) at ₹128-132 (approximately $1.54-1.58) per kg. Cotton comber prices were noted at ₹120-122 (approximately $1.44-1.46) per kg. Recycled polyester fibre (PET bottle fibre) was noted at ₹74-76 (approximately $0.89-0.91) per kg today, as per TexPro.

In north India, cotton prices further eased following the bearish tone in ICE cotton. The prices slipped ₹25-30 per maund of 37.2 kg today. Traders said that domestic cotton prices eased after continued fall in ICE cotton. However, the drop in Indian cotton prices was less compared to the drop in US cotton prices.
