  • Cotton yarn prices in North India showed weakness, with a ₹1/kg drop in Ludhiana, but prices remained stable in Delhi.
  • Recycled polyester-cotton yarn prices rose in Panipat due to higher costs of raw material, amid limited supply of PET bottles.
  • Cotton prices were stable amid weak demand and reduced arrivals, with cautious buying by mills.
Cotton yarn prices continued to note weakness in north India markets amid limited demand. Traders said that cotton yarn prices did not find support as there was no indications of better export orders. Cotton yarn prices eased by ₹1 per kg in Ludhiana market. Last week, cotton yarn prices had inched up in the market. Delhi market noticed stability in cotton yarn prices. However, recycled polyester-cotton yarn increased by ₹2-4 per kg in Panipat market. Recent rise in virgin polyester fibre and slow supply of PET bottle this season pushed up recycled polyester fibre and recycled PC yarn prices. Trade experts said that the demand for home textiles from end users was still very weak. The market was still unsure about stable demand of finished products.

A trader from the Ludhiana market told Fibre2Fashion, “Cotton yarn did not see momentum in demand from downstream industry. Therefore, mills and stockists had to reduce prices to lure buyers. Cotton yarn prices eased by ₹1 per kg in this week.”

In Ludhiana, 30 count cotton combed yarn was sold at ₹252-262 per kg (GST inclusive); 20 and 25 count combed yarn were traded at ₹242-252 per kg and ₹247-257 per kg respectively; and carded yarn of 30 count was noted at 232-237 per kg, according to Fibre2Fashion’s market insight tool TexPro.

“There was stability in cotton yarn prices. Weaving industry was still slow for fresh buying. Cotton yarn export demand was also limited. However, the prices remained stable because of average demand,” a trader from the Delhi market told F2F. In this market, 30 count combed yarn was traded at ₹250-255 per kg (GST extra), 40 count combed at ₹275-280 per kg, 30 count carded at ₹227-231 per kg, and 40 count carded at ₹252-255 per kg, as per TexPro.

India’s home textiles hub of Panipat witnessed steep rise in recycled PC yarn prices because of increase in raw material costs. Ankur Bansal, a trader from Panipat told F2F, “There was rise in price from raw material side. There was no support from demand of finished goods.” Recycled PC yarn gained ₹2-4 per kg in the last couple of days. According to the traders, increase in virgin PSF and limited supply of PET bottle supported recycled polyester value chain. PET bottle supply is reduced because of seasonal impact of the ongoing winter season.

In Panipat, 10s recycled PC yarn (Grey) was traded at ₹76-80 per kg (GST paid). Other varieties and counts were noted as: 10s recycled PC yarn (Black) at ₹51-54 per kg, 20s recycled PC yarn (Grey) at ₹88-93 per kg, and 30s recycled PC yarn (Grey) at ₹133-142 per kg. Cotton comber prices were noted at ₹112-114 per kg. Recycled polyester fibre (PET bottle fibre) was noted at ₹74-78 per kg.

In North India, cotton prices were stable amid weak demand and limited arrival. Traders said that cotton arrival reduced because of festival of Makar Sankranti. They said that mills were very cautious in buying cotton. Today’s arrival reduced to 15,000 bales of 170 kg. State-wise arrivals were noted as Punjab 2,000 bales, Haryana 5,000 bales, upper Rajasthan 5,000, and lower Rajasthan 3,000 bales. Cotton was priced in Punjab at ₹5,425-5,525 and in Haryana at ₹5,400-5,500, upper Rajasthan at ₹5,325-5,525 per maund of 37.2 kg. Bikaner line cotton was sold at ₹5,525-5,600 per maund. In lower Rajasthan, cotton was priced at ₹52,000-54,000 per candy of 356 kg.
