The Ludhiana market saw steadiness in cotton yarn prices. There was limited buying from the consumer industry and export market. The market had seen a rise of ₹3 per kg last week after the MSP hike. A trader from the Ludhiana market told Fibre2Fashion, "There was no support from buyers to raise prices this week. Earlier, the mills had increased yarn prices after the MSP hike. Cotton was also traded higher in the open market, but yarn prices did not find support. The garment industry is not getting sufficient orders from local and global brands."
In Ludhiana, 30 count cotton combed yarn was sold at ₹265-275 (approximately $3.18-3.30) per kg (inclusive of GST); 20 and 25 count combed yarn were traded at ₹255-265 (approximately $3.06-3.18) per kg and ₹260-270 (approximately $3.12-3.24) per kg, respectively; and carded yarn of 30 count was noted at ₹245-250 (approximately $2.94-3.00) per kg today, according to trade sources.
Cotton yarn prices were stable this week in the Delhi market as well. The market did not see a rise last week after the MSP hike despite the increase in ex-mill rates. Trade sources said that cotton yarn demand was not good enough to raise prices, although traders are keen to improve demand next month.
In Delhi, 30 count combed knitting yarn was traded at ₹263-265 (approximately $3.15-3.18) per kg (GST extra), 40 count combed at ₹283-290 (approximately $3.39-3.46) per kg, 30 count carded at ₹238-240 (approximately $2.85-2.88) per kg, and 40 count carded at ₹263-266 (approximately $3.15-3.19) per kg today.
India’s home textile hub Panipat also witnessed stability in recycled yarn prices. Although recycled polyester fibre gained ₹2-3 per kg after an increase by a leading producer of virgin PSF and its raw material, trade sources said that overall demand for home textiles was average, which supported recycled yarn prices at previous levels. Recycled polyester fibre gained, but yarn prices did not rise due to poor demand.
In Panipat, 10s recycled PC yarn (Grey) was traded at ₹78-82 (approximately $0.93-0.98) per kg (GST paid). Other varieties and counts were noted at 10s recycled PC yarn (Black) at ₹53-56 (approximately $0.64-0.67) per kg, 20s recycled PC yarn (Grey) at ₹90-95 (approximately 1.08-1.14) per kg and 30s recycled PC yarn (Grey) at ₹128-132 (approximately $1.53-1.58) per kg. Cotton comber prices were noted at ₹110-112 (approximately $1.32-1.34) per kg and recycled polyester fibre (PET bottle fibre) at ₹78-82 (approximately $0.93-0.98) per kg today.
In north India, cotton prices have risen by ₹75-100 per maund of 37.2 kg in the last week. Although demand was not very encouraging, mills are buying cotton as per their needs. Traders said that gains in ICE cotton and a decline in cotton arrivals caused the increase in prices. A trader explained that mills will have to depend on stocked cotton in the next 3-4 months. An expected delay in new cotton arrivals was also a factor in the price increase. Ginners are selling their stocked cotton as and when they find comfortable price levels.
Today's arrivals were 500 bales of 170 kg in north India. State-wise arrivals were as follows: 400 bales in Haryana, 50 bales in upper Rajasthan, and 50 bales in lower Rajasthan. Cotton prices in Punjab ranged from ₹5,775 to ₹5,800 (approximately $69.20-69.50) per maund of 37.2 kg, while in Haryana, prices ranged from ₹5,700 to ₹5,800 (approximately $68.30-69.50). In upper Rajasthan, cotton was priced between ₹5,500 and ₹5,800 (approximately $65.91-69.50) per maund. Bikaner line cotton sold for ₹5,800 to ₹5,900 (approximately $69.50-70.70) per maund. In lower Rajasthan, cotton was priced at ₹53,600 to ₹56,700 (approximately $642.28-679.42) per candy of 356 kg.
