  • In North India, cotton yarn trade prices stabilised due to stronger cotton and increased export demand.
  • Ludhiana and Delhi markets reported stable prices, with Panipat noting steady recycled yarn prices.
  • Domestic demand remains weak, but mills are optimistic.
  • North India's cotton prices rose after a hike in ICE cotton and active purchasing.
North India's cotton yarn prices remained stable, influenced by stronger cotton, and improved demand from the export market. Traders indicated that spinning mills have received substantial export orders following the rise in ICE cotton prices. Consequently, they are not hesitant to stockpile their production in anticipation of future price increases. However, sluggish demand from the domestic downstream industry has not facilitated any price rise. Both Delhi and Ludhiana markets reported stable cotton yarn prices. Panipat, India's home textile hub, also observed consistency in recycled yarn prices amid slow demand.

A Ludhiana market trader told Fibre2Fashion, "The market is expecting a positive trend in cotton yarn in the coming weeks. Mills have seen a boost in exports following the rise in American cotton, although domestic demand from the weaving industry remains weak. Currently, the mills are not under pressure to sell."

In Ludhiana, 30 count cotton combed yarn was sold at ₹252-262 per kg (GST inclusive); 20 and 25 count combed yarn were traded at ₹242-252 per kg and ₹247-257 per kg respectively; and carded yarn of 30 count was noted at 232-237 per kg, according to Fibre2Fashion’s market insight tool TexPro.

A Delhi market trader informed F2F, "The market observed average demand and supply of cotton yarn, resulting in stable prices. Mills are not facing distress sales. A positive trend was noted in cotton yarn trade." In this market, 30 count combed yarn was traded at ₹250-255 per kg (GST extra), 40 count combed at ₹275-280 per kg, 30 count carded at ₹227-231 per kg, and 40 count carded at ₹252-255 per kg, as per TexPro.

Recycled yarn prices remained unchanged in the Panipat market, reflecting slow demand. Traders mentioned that demand for recycled yarn was limited in the downstream industry, and supply was not excessive. A balance between demand and supply maintained the current price levels. In Panipat, 10s recycled PC yarn (Grey) traded at ₹76-80 per kg (GST paid). Other varieties and counts included 10s recycled PC yarn (Black) at ₹51-54 per kg, 20s recycled PC yarn (Grey) at ₹88-93 per kg, and 30s recycled PC yarn (Grey) at ₹133-142 per kg. Cotton comber prices were around ₹112-114 per kg and recycled polyester fibre (PET bottle fibre) was priced at ₹73-76 per kg.

North India's cotton prices rose following an increase in ICE cotton. Domestic prices of natural fibre increased by ₹25-50 per maund of 37.2 kg, while the ICE cotton March 2024 contract reached US cent 85.47 per pound. Despite lower quality, traders reported that cotton prices increased in northern states, supported by price rises in other regions. Spinning mills, MNCs, and the Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) are actively purchasing the natural fibre.

Today's arrivals included 15,000 bales of 170 kg, with state-wise arrivals as follows: Punjab 2,000 bales, Haryana 5,000 bales, upper Rajasthan 5,000, and lower Rajasthan 3,000 bales. Cotton prices were ₹5,525-5,575 per maund of 37.2 kg in Punjab, ₹5,500-5,575 pelr maund in Haryana, ₹5,375-5,575 per maund in upper Rajasthan, and ₹5,625-5,725 per maund for Bikaner line cotton. In lower Rajasthan, cotton was priced at ₹52,400-54,400 per candy of 356 kg.
