The Ludhiana market noticed a steady trend in polyester-cotton and polyester yarn prices. However, recycled polyester yarn was traded higher by ₹2 per kg. The market was facing limited liquidity, which is affecting buyers' purchasing interest. A trader from the Ludhiana market told Fibre2Fashion, “North India has seen good retail sales of winter garments, which helped manufacturers and traders clear their stock. However, liquidity did not improve in the textile value chain. Nevertheless, recycled polyester yarn gained as recycled polyester fibre experienced a jump last week.”
In Ludhiana, 30 count PC combed yarn (48/52) traded at ₹209-219 (approximately $2.47-2.59) per kg (GST inclusive); 30 count PC carded yarn (65/35) at ₹196-206 (approximately $2.32-2.44) per kg; 20 recycled polyester at ₹114-123 (approximately $1.35-1.46) per kg; 30 count polyester spun at ₹158-165 (approximately $1.87-1.95) per kg (GST inclusive); and recycled polyester fibre (PET bottle fibre) at ₹78-81 (approximately $0.92-0.96) per kg. Virgin polyester fibre was priced at ₹100.50 (approximately $1.19) per kg.
Surat’s polyester yarn market witnessed steadiness in prices, although there was mixed movement in the prices of certain varieties due to supply dynamics. The price of 50/48 FDY yarn improved by ₹1 per kg, but 75/72 FDY eased by ₹1 per kg. According to market sources, the market is still facing tight payment conditions. Consumer industries and traders are more interested in holding liquidity rather than building stocks of polyester yarn.
In Surat market, 30 count polyester spun yarn was traded at ₹147-148 (approximately $1.74-1.75) per kg (GST extra); 40 count poly spun yarn at ₹160-161 (approximately $1.89-1.91) per kg; 50/48 fully drawn yarn (FDY) at ₹115-116 (approximately $1.36-1.37) per kg; 75/72 FDY at ₹105-106 (approximately $1.24-1.26) per kg; and 75 bright yarn ₹105-106 (approximately $1.24-1.26) per kg.
Viscose yarn prices eased by ₹1 per kg in Surat due to slow demand from the fabric industry, but prices remained steady in the Mumbai market. Surat-based trade sources noted slow demand due to lower consumption of viscose yarn caused by a labour shortage in weaving mills. However, a trader from the Mumbai market reported that higher shipping freight charges supported viscose yarn prices. The market also witnessed better buying from the weaving industry. He noted that there might be pressure on specific varieties of viscose yarn, but overall demand is not weak.
In Mumbai, imported 30 count viscose vortex yarn was priced at ₹193-199 (approximately $2.29-2.36) per kg; and local 30 count ring-spun viscose yarn at ₹198-203 (approximately $2.34-2.40) per kg in this market. In Surat, 30 viscose compact yarn (local) was sold at ₹209-211 (approximately $2.47-2.50) per kg (GST extra) and 30 viscose vortex yarn at ₹202-203 (approximately $2.39-2.40) per kg.
In north India, cotton prices gained by ₹60-70 per maund of 37.2 kg over the last week. Traders believe that cotton prices were driven by a long rally in ICE cotton. Higher prices in the global market make Indian cotton more competitive for cotton yarn, fabric, and fibre. Although cotton procurement has begun by the Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) in Haryana and Rajasthan, government buying at a few centres has not impacted the open market. Traders reported that spinning mills are buying cotton for regular consumption and stocking, but the price rise in natural fibre may discourage them.
North India’s cotton arrivals increased to 16,500 bales of 170 kg, comprising 500 bales in Punjab, 4,500 bales in Haryana, 5,000 bales in upper Rajasthan, and 6,500 bales in lower Rajasthan. Cotton prices in Punjab ranged from ₹5,670-5,680 (approximately $67.14-67.26) per maund of 37.2 kg, while in Haryana, prices ranged from ₹5,660-5,670 (approximately $67.02-67.14). In upper Rajasthan, cotton was priced between ₹5,660-5,680 (approximately $67.02-67.26) per maund. In lower Rajasthan, it was priced at ₹53,700-54,700 (approximately $635.87-647.71) per candy of 356 kg. Seed cotton was priced at ₹7,300-7,500 (approximately $86.44-88.81) per quintal of 100 kg. Seed cotton prices increased by ₹100 per quintal over the last week.
