A trader from the Ludhiana market told Fibre2Fashion, "There was average demand for PC yarn. Its prices were steady after a steep rise in the last few weeks. However, mills remained optimistic about future demand, anticipating a seasonal increase in the coming months."
In Ludhiana, 30-count PC combed yarn (48/52) was trading at ₹208-218 per kg (GST inclusive); 30-count PC carded yarn (65/35) was sold at ₹194-204 per kg, 30-count polyester spun was priced at ₹153-163 per kg (GST inclusive) and recycled polyester fibre (PET bottle fibre) was quoted at ₹73-75 per kg, according to Fibre2Fashion’s market insight tool TexPro.
A trade source from the Surat market stated that market sentiments were more positive for polyester spun yarn, with demand expected to remain steady during the wedding season. The Surat market is expected to see robust demand in the coming months. 30-count poly spun yarn was traded at ₹137-138 per kg (GST extra), and 40-count poly spun yarn at ₹149-153 per kg. Viscose yarn was priced at ₹195-197 per kg (GST extra) for 30-count viscose compact yarn (local) in Surat.
Meanwhile, viscose yarn prices remained unchanged in the Mumbai market. A Mumbai trader told Fibre2Fashion, "Viscose yarn is consistently facing poor demand from the downstream industry. The lower arrival of viscose yarn due to quality control order (QCO) restrictions has helped prices remain stable." Imported 30-count viscose vertex yarn was priced at ₹178-183 per kg, while local 30-count ring spun viscose yarn was quoted at ₹187-190 per kg, as per TexPro.
Cotton prices in north India remained stable, despite a rise in other states of the country. Traders attributed this to the poor quality of cotton produced in Punjab, Haryana, and Rajasthan, leading to undervaluation of the natural fibre in north India. Cotton prices remained at previous levels, except for a slight increase in lower Rajasthan. Spinning mills and multinational corporations (MNCs) have diverted to Gujarat and Maharashtra due to the unexpected quality of cotton in north India.
Cotton arrival was estimated at 15,000 bales of 170 kg in the region, with state-wise arrivals as follows: Punjab 2,000 bales, Haryana 5,000 bales, upper Rajasthan 5,000 bales, and lower Rajasthan 3,000 bales. Cotton was priced in Punjab at ₹5,475-5,575, in Haryana at ₹5,465-5,565, in upper Rajasthan at ₹5,350-5,550 per maund of 37.2 kg, and Bikaner region cotton was sold at ₹5,550-5,650 per maund. In lower Rajasthan, cotton was priced at ₹52,300-54,300 per candy of 356 kg.
