The Ludhiana market witnessed a rise of ₹3-5 per kg in PC yarn, while polyester spun yarn was traded steadily. A trader from the Ludhiana market told Fibre2Fashion, “PC yarn has seen a steep rise as mills have increased their selling prices after the rise in the cost of production. The rise in cotton prices drove up PC yarn prices. Demand was also good for PC yarn as buyers were trying to purchase before further rises in raw material costs.”
In Ludhiana, 30 count PC combed yarn (48/52) traded at ₹218-228 (approximately $2.63-2.75) per kg (GST inclusive); 30 count PC carded yarn (65/35) at ₹204-214 (approximately $2.46-2.58) per kg; 30 count polyester spun at ₹150-156 (approximately $1.81-1.88) per kg (GST inclusive); and recycled polyester fibre (PET bottle fibre) at ₹70-73 (approximately $0.84-0.88) per kg, according to Fibre2Fashion’s market insight tool TexPro.
The Surat market noted stability in polyester spun yarn, but viscose yarn prices were down by ₹1-3 per kg. A trader from the Surat market told F2F, “Normally, March sees good demand because the production of summer garments and ladies' wear picks up. But the fear of payment rules dampened market sentiments in the entire value chain.”
In Surat, 30 count polyester spun yarn was traded at ₹137-138 (approximately $1.65-1.67) per kg (GST extra); 40 count poly spun yarn at ₹149-150 (approximately $1.80-1.81) per kg; 30 viscose compact yarn (local) at ₹196-200 (approximately $2.37-2.41) per kg (GST extra). In the Mumbai market, viscose yarn prices were lowered by ₹1-2 per kg due to slow demand. According to trade sources, concerns regarding payment rules discouraged buying in the last month of the current fiscal 2023-24, ending March 31. Viscose yarn eased down because of poor demand from fabric manufacturers and stockists. Imported 30 count viscose vertex yarn was priced at ₹180-185 (approximately $2.17-2.23) per kg; and local 30 count ring-spun viscose yarn at ₹188-191 (approximately $2.27-2.30) per kg in this market, as per TexPro.
