However, polyester spun market was steady in Ludhiana market of north India. The market noted stability in polyester-cotton (PC) yarn prices also. Trade experts hinted that weaving industry has stocked sufficiently for the coming summer season. Therefore, PC and polyester yarn demand stagnated. Further demand will depend on movement in fabric market. Presently, fabric market is not getting good demand from the garment industry.
Viscose yarn prices were stable in Surat and Mumbai market. Presence of huge stocks in viscose value chain served as a bearish factor for the market.
Ludhiana market noticed weaker demand from the weaving industry. It caused prices of PC and polyester spun yarn to remain range bound. Buyers have slow downed their buying as they have already sufficient stock. Sluggish sentiments in fabric and garment industry were cause of concern for the yarn market. A trader from Ludhiana market told Fibre2Fashion, “Buyers have completed their initial purchase of yarn for the coming summer season. Further demand will be visible if fabric demand improves. Slow demand in downstream industry was a negative factor for PC and polyester yarn.”
30 count PC combed yarn (48/52) was traded at ₹195-207 per kg (GST inclusive) in Ludhiana, according to Fibre2Fashion’s market insight tool TexPro. 30 count PC carded yarn (65/35) was sold at ₹180-190 per kg. 30 count polyester spun was priced at ₹153-163 per kg (GST inclusive) in the north Indian market. Recycled polyester fibre (PET bottle fibre) was quoted at ₹70-72 per kg. Virgin polyester staple fibre was quoted at ₹105 per kg by the manufacturers.
However, Surat market witnessed upward trend amid better demand. Poly spun yarn gained ₹2-3 per kg on strong demand. Traders said that the market saw good demand from weaving industry. New weaving units are coming in production, which is positive for demand. 30 count poly spun yarn was traded at ₹136-138 per kg (GST extra) and 40 counts poly spun yarn at ₹140-154 per kg. But viscose yarn steadied. 30 viscose compact yarn (Local) was traded at ₹197-199 per kg (GST extra) in Surat.
Viscose yarn prices remained stable in Mumbai market because of sluggish demand from spinning mills. Trade sources said that huge stocks with mills and traders did not let the prices go upside. Demand from weaving industry was also limited. Viscose yarn is mainly used in womenswear. Retail demand was still very weak. Imported viscose vertex yarn was priced at ₹178-183 per kg. Local ring spun viscose yarn was quoted at ₹187-190 per kg, as per TexPro.
Meanwhile in north India, cotton prices further gained due to regular buying from spinning mills amid stagnation of arrival. The prices gained ₹20-30 per maund of 37.2 kg in most of the markets. According to the traders, spinning mills and traders were regular in buying the natural fibre. Cotton buying by CCI (Cotton Corporation of India) was also a supporting factor for the market. It is estimated that around 60-65 per cent cotton crop has arrived in north India till now, which is quite higher than the arrival of last year. Cotton arrival was noted at 29,000 bales of 170 kg in the region. State wise arrival was: Punjab 4,500 bales, Haryana 7,000 bales, upper Rajasthan 10,000 bales and lower Rajasthan 7,500 bales. The prices were ruling in Punjab at ₹5,450-5,500, Haryana ₹5,400-5,500 and upper Rajasthan ₹5,300-5,550 per maund. Bikaner line cotton was sold ₹75-100 per maund higher than the prices of Sri Ganganagar line in upper Rajasthan. The prices were noted at ₹51,800-53,800 per candy of 356 kg in lower Rajasthan.
