  • India's polyester, polyester-cotton, and viscose yarn prices rose due to increased raw material costs.
  • Ludhiana, Surat and Mumbai saw significant price increases, driven by better demand from the fabric and garment industries.
  • Limited cotton arrivals and ginning mills' reluctance to sell at current prices suggest a potential price increase in the future.
India’s polyester, polyester-cotton, and viscose yarn prices increased by ₹2-5 per kg following a recent rise in polyester and viscose fibre prices by manufacturing companies. Last week, polyester fibre prices rose by ₹2 per kg, and viscose fibre prices increased by ₹3 per kg. The hike in raw material prices has increased the cost of yarn production. Market experts indicated that there are signs of better demand and production activities in the downstream industry. Fabric prices have risen by ₹2 per metre in the south Indian market. It is expected that demand and production activities will further gain momentum in the coming weeks as local and international demand for garments and other textile products picks up in the second half of the year.

In the Ludhiana market, polyester and PC yarn prices continued to rise by ₹2-5 per kg last week. A trader from Ludhiana market told Fibre2Fashion, “Recently, prominent fibre manufacturers increased the prices of polyester fibre by ₹2 per kg. However, yarn prices for these varieties have increased by up to ₹5 per kg. The market also witnessed better demand from the downstream industry.”

In Ludhiana, 30 count PC combed yarn (48/52) traded at ₹212-222 (approximately $2.54-2.66) per kg (GST inclusive); 30 count PC carded yarn (65/35) at ₹199-209 (approximately $2.39-2.51) per kg; 20 recycled polyester fibre yarn at ₹107-117 (approximately $1.28-1.40) per kg; 30 count polyester spun at ₹156-165 (approximately $1.87-1.98) per kg (GST inclusive); and recycled polyester fibre (PET bottle fibre) at ₹76-78 (approximately $0.91-0.94) per kg, as per trade sources.

Polyester and viscose yarn prices have seen a rise of ₹2 per kg in various counts and varieties. Increasing fibre prices and good demand have driven yarn prices upwards. According to market sources, there are signs of better demand from the fabric and garment industries. Fabric prices increased by ₹2 per metre in the south Indian market, which is a positive sign for the yarn market.

In Surat, 30 count polyester spun yarn was traded at ₹147-148 (approximately $1.76-1.78) per kg (GST extra); 40 count poly spun yarn at ₹167-168 (approximately $2.00-2.01) per kg; 50/48 fully drawn yarn (FDY) at ₹122-123 (approximately $1.47-1.48) per kg; 75/72 FDY at ₹112-113 (approximately $1.34-1.36) per kg; 75 bright yarn at ₹112-113 (approximately $1.34-1.36) per kg; 30 viscose compact yarn (local) at ₹205-206 (approximately $2.46-2.47) per kg (GST extra).

The Mumbai market also noted an increase in viscose yarn prices by ₹2 per kg. Imported viscose vortex yarn and locally manufactured ring-spun yarn saw further increases after last week's rise. A trader said costlier viscose fibre and higher demand pushed up yarn prices in the domestic market. Imported 30 count viscose vortex yarn was priced at ₹189-194 (approximately $2.27-2.33) per kg, and local 30 count ring-spun viscose yarn was priced at ₹194-200 (approximately $2.33-2.40) per kg in this market.

North India cotton prices remained almost stable amid limited demand. However, prices were lowered by ₹25 per maund of 37.2 kg in the last couple of days. ICE cotton saw a steep fall in the last few days. Traders said the local market is partially following ICE cotton. It has seen a slight drop in cotton prices compared to ICE cotton. Cotton arrivals are reducing regularly. Ginning mills are not interested in selling cotton at current prices from their stock. They hope that prices may improve after two months as availability will reduce in the coming weeks.

Today's arrivals decreased to 800 bales of 170 kg in north India. State-wise arrivals were as follows: 600 bales in Haryana, 100 bales in upper Rajasthan, and 100 bales in lower Rajasthan. There were no sizeable arrivals in Punjab’s mandis. Cotton prices in Punjab ranged from ₹5,675 to ₹5,700 (approximately $68.06-68.36) per maund of 37.2 kg, while in Haryana, prices ranged from ₹5,575 to ₹5,675 (approximately $66.87-68.06).
