The Ludhiana market noticed a bearish trend in PC and polyester yarn prices. Consequently, polyester and PC yarn prices declined by ₹2-3 per kg since last week. A trader from the Ludhiana market told Fibre2Fashion, “The market is facing weak demand and a liquidity crisis in the current bearish market. A shortage of shipping containers has also added problems for the textile value chain. Exporters are struggling with shipment containers. Higher container freight charges are also troubling the yarn trade.”
In Ludhiana, 30 count PC combed yarn (48/52) traded at ₹215-225 (approximately $2.57-2.69) per kg (GST inclusive); 30 count PC carded yarn (65/35) at ₹202-212 (approximately $2.42-2.54) per kg; 20 recycled polyester fibre yarn at ₹116-126 (approximately $1.39-1.51) per kg; 30 count polyester spun at ₹166-176 (approximately $1.99-2.11) per kg (GST inclusive); and recycled polyester fibre (PET bottle fibre) at ₹81-83 (approximately $0.97-0.99) per kg.
The Surat market also noted a drop of ₹2 per kg in most varieties and counts of polyester spun yarn and polyester speciality yarn. According to market sources, slow demand forced mills and stockists to reduce yarn prices. Buyers are facing payment problems from the downstream industry, which is also causing slow buying in the market.
In Surat, 30 count polyester spun yarn was traded at ₹148-149 (approximately $1.77-1.78) per kg (GST extra); 40 count poly spun yarn at ₹162-163 (approximately $1.94-1.95) per kg; 50/48 fully drawn yarn (FDY) at ₹120-121 (approximately $1.44-1.45) per kg; 75/72 FDY at ₹109-110 (approximately $1.30-1.32) per kg; 75 bright yarn at ₹108-109 (approximately $1.29-1.30) per kg.
Viscose yarn prices eased by ₹2 per kg in Surat but steadied in the Mumbai market. However, trade sources indicated slightly better demand for viscose yarn. They said that fabric manufacturing units, i.e., power loom owners, are buying viscose yarn as they want to secure raw material for the festival demand. But the demand was not enough to support a price rise in viscose yarn. They said that exporters were facing container shortages and higher freight charges. Although, there are indications of easing in container availability and its freight charges.
In Mumbai, imported 30 count viscose vortex yarn was priced at ₹198-204 (approximately $2.37-2.44) per kg; and local 30 count ring-spun viscose yarn at ₹203-208 (approximately $2.43-2.49) per kg in this market. In Surat, 30 viscose compact yarn (local) was sold at ₹208-210 (approximately $2.49-2.51) per kg (GST extra) and 30 viscose vortex yarn at ₹202-206 (approximately $2.42-2.47) per kg.
In north India, cotton prices eased today after a rise in the previous session. However, the prices have risen by ₹50-75 per maund of 37.2 kg since last Monday. Traders said that ginners, stockists, and MNCs expect a price rise in the last quarter of the current season. Cotton prices have increased as sellers were not interested in selling their stock at lower prices. However, demand from the spinning and weaving industry is crucial for the sustainability of the price rise. Cotton arrival was stable at a very nominal level.
Today's arrivals were 500 bales of 170 kg in north India. State-wise arrivals were as follows: 400 bales in Haryana, 50 bales in upper Rajasthan, and 50 bales in lower Rajasthan. Cotton prices in Punjab ranged from ₹5,950 to ₹5,975 (approximately $71.23-71.53) per maund of 37.2 kg, while in Haryana, prices ranged from ₹5,850 to ₹5,875 (approximately $70.03-70.33). In upper Rajasthan, cotton was priced between ₹5,675- ₹5,975 (approximately $67.94-71.53) per maund. Bikaner line cotton sold for ₹5,950 to ₹6,050 (approximately $71.23-72.43) per maund. In lower Rajasthan, cotton was priced at ₹55,000 to ₹58,000 (approximately $658.45-694.36) per candy of 356 kg.
