  • In the Indian man-made yarn market, polyester-cotton yarn stabilised in Ludhiana while showing a positive trend in Surat due to expected wedding season demand.
  • Polyester and viscose yarn prices varied, with potential increases influenced by supply constraints.
  • Cotton prices in north India remained stable with cautious buying by mills amid average demand.

Mixed trends prevailed in the Indian man-made yarn market. In the Ludhiana market, polyester-cotton (PC) yarn stabilised after a steep rise. However, in Surat, Gujarat, polyester-cotton yarn exhibited a positive tone as traders anticipated a revival in demand for the upcoming wedding season. Polyester spun yarn traded higher by ₹1-2 per kg in the market. Viscose yarn might also see an upward trend due to slow supply from foreign countries, although its prices remain steady for now.

A trader from the Ludhiana market told Fibre2Fashion, “PC cotton yarn prices have stabilised after a steep rise. The weaving industry is discouraged by higher prices and has already built sufficient stock for consumption. Buyers may return when they find prices at a more comfortable level.”

In Ludhiana, 30 count PC combed yarn (48/52) traded at ₹207-217 per kg (GST inclusive), 30 count PC carded yarn (65/35) sold at ₹193-203 per kg, and 30 count polyester spun was priced at ₹153-163 per kg (GST inclusive). Recycled polyester fibre (PET bottle fibre) was quoted at ₹73-75 per kg, according to Fibre2Fashion’s market insight tool TexPro.

A trade source from the Surat market stated that good demand is expected in the next 3-4 months due to the wedding season. The market offers a wide variety of products for men and women in the domestic market. Consequently, polyester spun yarn prices increased by ₹1-2 per kg and may rise further if demand from the weaving industry grows. In this market, 30 count poly spun yarn traded at ₹137-138 per kg (GST extra), 40 count poly spun yarn at ₹149-153 per kg, 30 viscose compact yarn (local) was priced at ₹195-197 per kg (GST extra), and viscose yarn prices eased by ₹2-3 per kg without seeing an upward trend.

Viscose yarn prices also remained steady in the Mumbai market. A trader told Fibre2Fashion, “Viscose yarn prices are at previous levels, but we may see an upward trend in the coming wedding season, as viscose yarn is mostly used in women’s garments, which are in high demand domestically during the wedding season. Lower arrival of viscose yarn due to QCO restrictions may also support prices.” Imported 30 count viscose vertex yarn was priced at ₹178-183 per kg, and local 30 count ring spun viscose yarn was quoted at ₹187-190 per kg in Mumbai, as per TexPro.

North Indian cotton prices were stable amid average demand and steady supply. Traders were cautious in new buying, not expecting an immediate revival in demand from the weaving industry. Cotton arrival was estimated at 15,000 bales of 170 kg in the region, with state-wise arrival as follows: Punjab 2,000 bales, Haryana 5,000 bales, upper Rajasthan 5,000 bales, and lower Rajasthan 3,000 bales. Cotton was priced in Punjab at ₹5,425-5,525 and in Haryana at ₹5,400-5,500, in upper Rajasthan at ₹5,325-5,525 per maund of 37.2 kg, and Bikaner line cotton sold at ₹5,525-5,600 per maund. In lower Rajasthan, cotton was priced at ₹52,000-54,000 per candy of 356 kg.
