Similarly, the viscose value chain is set to remain bearish, with prospects for improvement delayed until summer. Short-term optimism may emerge in the lead-up to the wedding season. In Ludhiana, PC and poly spun yarn prices dropped by ₹2-3 per kg, while Surat and Mumbai markets registered a ₹2-4 per kg decline in viscose yarn prices.
The Ludhiana market reported a decline in the prices of PC (polyester-cotton) yarn, with a ₹2 per kg drop attributed to weak demand. Meanwhile, prices of poly spun yarn remained stable despite poor market interest. Speaking to Fibre2Fashion, a local trader remarked, "There were no signs of increased demand from the weaving industry. The subdued sentiment in the yarn market is likely to persist. Even the Diwali festival failed to boost market morale."
In the Ludhiana market, PC yarn experienced a price reduction of ₹2-3 per kg. The 30-count PC combed yarn (48/52) traded between ₹188-197 per kg, inclusive of GST. Meanwhile, 30-count PC carded yarn (65/35) sold for ₹174-184 per kg. In the same market, 30-count poly spun yarn was priced at ₹151-161 per kg, also inclusive of GST. Recycled polyester fibre, made from PET bottles, was quoted at ₹67-70 per kg, according to Fibre2Fashion's market insight tool TexPro.
The Surat market recorded a decline in the prices of polyester spun and viscose yarn, falling by ₹2-4 per kg. Traders indicated that there was little hope for demand improvement, with the weaving industry unlikely to bolster the market in the next one to two months. However, a temporary uptick may occur due to the upcoming wedding season. The 30-count poly spun yarn traded at ₹133-135 per kg, exclusive of GST, while 40-count poly spun yarn was priced at ₹148-150 per kg. Local 30-count viscose compact yarn traded at ₹196-200 per kg, also exclusive of GST. Viscose yarn prices further dipped by ₹2-4 per kg over the last week.
The Mumbai market witnessed a decline in viscose yarn prices, falling by ₹2-4 per kg, as demand from spinning mills remained unsupportive. Trade sources indicated that Tamil Nadu-based spinners have scaled back viscose yarn production due to uncertain demand from the weaving industry. According to TexPro, imported viscose vertex yarn was priced between ₹185-190 per kg, while local ring-spun viscose yarn was quoted at ₹193-197 per kg.
Cotton prices in north India have shown a downward trend, easing by ₹20-30 per maund of 37.2 kg, in line with the bearish sentiment in ICE cotton futures. According to traders, local prices are being influenced by global market downturns. While domestic mills continue to buy cotton, their demand remains limited. Cotton arrivals increased to 29,000 bales of 170 kg in the region, with Haryana contributing 9,000 bales, upper Rajasthan 9,000 bales, and lower Rajasthan 11,000 bales. Punjab's market saw minimal arrival due to a ginners' strike. Current prices per maund stand at ₹5,560-5,670 in Punjab, ₹5,550-5,660 in Haryana, and ₹5,450-5,550 in upper Rajasthan. Bikaner line cotton traded at ₹120-140 per maund higher than Shri Ganganagar line in upper Rajasthan. Prices were noted at ₹54,500-55,500 per candy of 356 kg in lower Rajasthan.
