In Ludhiana, polyester spun yarn gained ₹4–5 per kg. Following a hike in virgin polyester fibre prices, yarn rates have surged ₹6–7 per kg over the past two weeks. The fabric industry is transitioning from summer to winter production planning. A trader from Ludhiana told Fibre2Fashion, “Demand for polyester garments typically rises post-summer, prompting manufacturing units to focus on polyester fabrics. The upcoming festive season is also encouraging demand. However, polyester-cotton yarn demand has shown no improvement.”
In Ludhiana, 30 count PC combed yarn (48/52) traded at ₹202-211 (approximately $2.37-2.47) per kg (GST inclusive); 30 count PC carded yarn (65/35) at ₹190-200 (approximately $2.23-2.34) per kg; 20 recycled polyester yarn at ₹120-125 (approximately $1.41-1.47) per kg; 30 count polyester spun at ₹156-165 (approximately $1.83-1.93) per kg (GST inclusive); recycled polyester fibre (PET bottle fibre) at ₹77-79 (approximately $0.90-0.93) per kg and virgin polyester fibre at ₹98.50 (approximately $1.15) per kg.
Meanwhile, the Surat market remained stable in polyester yarn. According to market sources, buyers are cautious about fresh purchases of polyester spun and specialised yarns, with sufficient stock levels acting as a deterrent. However, traders do not rule out the possibility of stronger demand in the coming week due to seasonal shifts.
In Surat, 30 count polyester spun yarn was traded at ₹142-143 (approximately $1.66-1.68) per kg (GST extra); 40 count poly spun yarn at ₹156-158 (approximately $1.83-1.85) per kg; 50/48 fully drawn yarn (FDY) at ₹115-116 (approximately $1.35-1.36) per kg; 75/72 FDY at ₹106-107 (approximately $1.24-1.25) per kg; and 75 bright yarn at ₹106-107 (approximately $1.24-1.25) per kg.
Viscose yarn prices rose by ₹2–3 per kg in both Surat and Mumbai markets. Mahesh Sharma, a trader from Mumbai, told Fibre2Fashion, “Fabric manufacturers are adjusting production plans based on demand projections for the coming months. Viscose garments see higher demand during the festive season, boosting the requirement for viscose fabric. Mills have started production accordingly.”
In Mumbai, imported 30 count viscose vortex yarn was priced at ₹203-207 (approximately $2.38-2.43) per kg; and local 30 count ring-spun viscose yarn at ₹204-206 (approximately $2.39-2.41) per kg in this market. In Surat, 30 viscose compact yarn (local) was sold at ₹222-223 (approximately $2.60-2.61) per kg (GST extra) and 30 viscose vortex yarn at ₹205-206 (approximately $2.40-2.41) per kg.
In north India, cotton prices eased by ₹10 per maund (37.2 kg) due to subdued demand and weaker ICE cotton trends. Recent production estimates and the latest Cotton Association of India (CAI) balance sheet have further dampened market sentiment. Buyers remain cautious about stockpiling cotton for the off-season, even as seed cotton supply is expected to end in the coming weeks. Ginners are currently selling from stock, as arrivals are insufficient.
North India’s cotton arrivals totalled 750 bales (170 kg each), comprising 500 bales in Haryana, 200 in upper Rajasthan, and 50 in lower Rajasthan. Punjab reported no fresh arrivals. Cotton prices in Punjab ranged from ₹5,730 to ₹5,740 (approximately $67.17–67.28) per maund of 37.2 kg; in Haryana, ₹5,550–5,600 (approximately $65.06–65.64); in upper Rajasthan, ₹5,730–5,750 (approximately $67.17–67.40). In lower Rajasthan, prices stood at ₹53,800–₹54,900 (approximately $633.82–646.66) per candy of 356 kg.
