  • South Indian cotton yarn market saw mixed trends, with prices rising in Tiruppur but stable in Mumbai.
  • Strong demand from the knitting sector boosted Tiruppur's prices, while the weaving segment remained unchanged.
  • In Mumbai, various yarn types had specific prices.
  • Tiruppur recorded a slight increase in carded yarn prices.
  • Cotton prices dropped in Gujarat.
The south Indian market experienced a mixed trend in cotton yarn prices. In the Tiruppur market, cotton yarn prices rose by ₹3-4 per kg, while the Mumbai market observed stability amid average demand. Traders noted a strong demand from the knitting sector, which drove yarn prices in the Tiruppur market. However, the weaving segment did not witness a similar increase in cotton yarn demand. Market experts commented that the overall Indian cotton yarn market shifted away from a pessimistic tone in the last week of January after a prolonged period of slow demand.

"The weaving yarn demand was average, leading to stability in cotton yarn prices. The South Indian market saw good demand for knitting fabric. Export demand also bolstered yarn prices in North India,” a Mumbai trader told Fibre2Fashion.

In Mumbai, 60 carded yarn of warp and weft varieties was sold at ₹1,425-1,450 and ₹1,310-1,380 per 5 kg (excluding GST), respectively. Other prices include 60 combed warp ₹318-325 per kg, 80 carded weft ₹1,400-1,440 per 4.5 kg, 44/46 carded warp ₹254-263 per kg, 40/41 carded warp ₹242-248 per kg, 40/41 combed warp ₹264-268 and 30/32 carded warp ₹232-237 per kg, according to Fibre2Fashion's market insight tool TexPro.

The Tiruppur market experienced a ₹3-4 per kg increase in cotton yarn prices, particularly in carded yarn. Naveen Jain, a trader from Tiruppur, told F2F, "Although spinning mills did not raise cotton yarn prices, they reduced discounts amid strong demand. Consequently, the effective prices of carded yarn increased in the local market. The Indian cotton yarn market ultimately emerged from weak sentiments, but uncertainty still persists."

In the Tiruppur market, cotton yarn prices were recorded as 30 count combed cotton yarn at ₹258-262 per kg (excluding GST), 34 count combed cotton yarn at ₹265-270 per kg, 40 count combed cotton yarn at ₹280-284 per kg, 30 count carded cotton yarn at ₹233-236 per kg, 34 count carded cotton yarn at ₹238-243 per kg, and 40 count carded cotton yarn at ₹245-250 per kg, as per TexPro.

Cotton prices in the Gujarat market decreased by ₹200-300 per candy of 356 kg due to slow demand and a significant drop in cotton seed prices. Trade sources indicated that ginning mills were under pressure to sell their production, while spinning mills were slow in making new purchases. Cotton prices fell by ₹200-300 per candy in Gujarat. Shankar-6 cotton was priced between ₹54,800-55,400 per candy of 356 kg. Southern mills aimed to buy cotton at ₹55,800-56,000 per candy. The arrival was 40,000-41,000 bales of 170 kg in Gujarat, with an all-India arrival estimated at 200,000-210,000 bales.
