PC and polyester yarn prices remained steady in the Ludhiana market, though there was slightly better demand for PC yarn. Polyester spun yarn saw weaker demand during the last fortnight of fiscal 2024-25. A trader from Ludhiana told Fibre2Fashion, “PC yarn noticed slightly better buying as cotton prices have risen in recent weeks. But tight payment conditions and annual closing were major factors for the bearish tone in polyester yarn. Demand may improve next month.” Virgin polyester fibre prices eased by ₹2 to ₹101 per kg as major domestic producers reduced prices following declines in global crude oil prices. However, recycled polyester fibre prices increased by ₹1 per kg due to shortages and rising prices of PET bottles faced by local manufacturers.
In Ludhiana, 30 count PC combed yarn (48/52) traded at ₹208-215 (approximately $2.41-2.49) per kg (GST inclusive); 30 count PC carded yarn (65/35) at ₹192-202 (approximately $2.22-2.34) per kg; 20 recycled polyester yarn at ₹112-118 (approximately $1.30-1.37) per kg; 30 count polyester spun at ₹155-163 (approximately $1.79-1.89) per kg (GST inclusive); recycled polyester fibre (PET bottle fibre) at ₹80-82 (approximately $0.93-0.95) per kg; and virgin polyester fibre ₹101 (approximately $1.17) per kg.
Surat’s polyester yarn market also remained stable, with different varieties trading at previous prices. Market sources expect weak demand to continue until the end of the current month but anticipate improvement in payment conditions and lifting next month. Polyester yarn demand typically remains stable even during summer months due to its use in low-priced garments.
In Surat, 30 count polyester spun yarn was traded at ₹144-145 (approximately $1.67-1.68) per kg (GST extra); 40 count poly spun yarn at ₹157-158 (approximately $1.82-1.83) per kg; 50/48 fully drawn yarn (FDY) at ₹113-114 (approximately $1.31-1.32) per kg; 75/72 FDY at ₹104-105 (approximately $1.20-1.21) per kg; and 75 bright yarn at ₹106 (approximately $1.23) per kg.
Viscose compact yarn prices fell by ₹3-5 per kg in Surat as recent sharp rises discouraged buying. However, vortex and ring-spun viscose yarn remained steady in Surat and Mumbai markets. Traders noted that viscose compact yarn had seen unusually high prices recently, which were beyond normal fluctuations. Thus, slower demand led to price declines. Other viscose yarn varieties did not experience similar increases. Prices of viscose compact yarn might fall further as current levels are still high. Viscose yarn trade continues to face headwinds from payment issues and slow buying activity due to annual closing.
In Mumbai, imported 30 count viscose vortex yarn was priced at ₹203-207 (approximately $2.35-2.39) per kg; and local 30 count ring-spun viscose yarn at ₹204-209 (approximately $2.36-2.42) per kg in this market.
In Surat, 30 viscose compact yarn (local) was sold at ₹220-225 (approximately $2.55-2.60) per kg (GST extra) and 30 viscose vortex yarn at ₹204-205 (approximately $2.36-2.37) per kg.
In north India, cotton prices paused their recent rally on Wednesday as ICE cotton futures saw a downward trend on Tuesday. Domestic cotton prices, influenced by limited availability, eased by ₹20-30 per maund (37.2 kg) earlier this week. Traders noted rising seed cotton prices due to increased buying from ginning mills amid rising cottonseed prices. Heavy procurement of approximately one crore bales by the Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) has absorbed a significant portion of India's total crop, prompting mills to purchase cotton from CCI auctions, even above base prices. Despite the temporary weakening influenced by ICE cotton, domestic cotton prices are unlikely to significantly fall in upcoming months.
North India’s cotton arrivals totalled 7,200 bales (170 kg each), including 200 bales in Punjab, 3,000 bales in Haryana, 3,000 bales in upper Rajasthan, and 1,000 bales in lower Rajasthan. Cotton prices in Punjab ranged from ₹5,570-5,580 (approximately $64.44-64.56) per maund; in Haryana, ₹5,530-5,550 (approximately $63.98-64.21) per maund; in upper Rajasthan, ₹5,570-5,590 (approximately $64.44-64.67) per maund; and in lower Rajasthan, ₹52,800-53,900 (approximately $610.87-623.60) per candy (356 kg). Seed cotton prices ranged from ₹7,100-7,450 (approximately $82.14-86.19) per quintal (100 kg).
