Dr. D. Raja, Professor and Head of the Department of Fashion Technology at Sona College of Technology, has been recognised for over 28 years of contributions in academia, research, and industry collaboration. He has a Ph.D. in Textile Technology from Anna University.
He has carried out research in smart textiles, clothing comfort, moisture management, transverse wicking, sweat transfer, evaporation studies, and assistive technologies for the locomotor disabled. Around 40 research papers, including 35 SCI-indexed publications, have been published, 6 patents have been granted, and several Ph.D. scholars have been guided by him. Funded projects worth ₹5 crore have been secured from agencies such as AICTE, DST, SIDBI, and ICSSR for the establishment of technical textile laboratories and research facilities.
Innovations in assistive sewing technology for differently abled individuals have been developed and recognised through multiple patents and national awards. Under the leadership provided by him, the Department of Fashion Technology has been honoured with the AICTE–CII National Award for Best Industry-Linked Department for three consecutive years and has achieved NBA accreditation twice.
