To fully realise the potential of artificial intelligence (AI), leaders at the recently-concluded G7 Summit in Canada committed to working together to boost adoption of AI in the public sector, helping small and medium enterprises (SMEs) adopt and develop safe, secure and trustworthy AI.

A G7 AI adoption road map would be launched to offer actionable pathways, enabling companies to adopt AI.

The energy challenges of AI will be addressed and its potential in energy efficiency and innovation will be harnessed. AI partnerships with emerging markets and developing country partners will be expanded, a release from the European Union (EU) said.

“We, the Leaders of the G7, recognize the potential of a human-centric approach to artificial intelligence (AI) to grow prosperity, benefit societies and address pressing global challenges,” the G7 leaders’ statement on AI for prosperity read.

The leaders also recognised that quantum technologies, which include computing, sensing and communications, have the potential to bring significant and transformative benefits to societies worldwide. They committed to working together to promote investment in and the adoption of quantum technologies.

European Council President Antonio Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen represented the EU at this year's G7 summit.

The main issues addressed during the working sessions were the global economic outlook, economic growth, security and resilience, safer communities, a more secure world, a strong and sovereign Ukraine and the future of energy security.
