The international community has also taken notice. Asian Export Control Observer –the renowned international magazine on export control – featured in its February/March 2005 issue an article on Korea's successful launch of export control information system. Countries such as Australia, Canada, Germany, and Taiwan have expressed interest in adopting a similar online export control information system.

Korea joined a series of international export control regimes between 1995 and 2001. The launch of the online service comes at a time of heightened global security measures in the wake of 9/11. In February 2004, a Strategic Item Control Division was created under MOCIE to specifically administer export control affairs.
