India’s exports of leather and leather goods inched up by 1.86 per cent to $4.36 billion in the fiscal year 2024–25. The shipment partially recovered after a significant decline in the previous year. Exports had fallen by 9.89 per cent in fiscal 2023–24 compared to the preceding fiscal.

India exported leather and leather goods worth $4.28 billion in 2023–24, which was 9.89 per cent lower than the $4.75 billion exported in 2022–23, according to trade data released by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.

India exported leather and leather goods worth $353.93 million in March 2025, the final month of the fiscal. This marked a 7.75 per cent month-on-month increase from $328.47 million in February 2025.

The United States, Germany and the United Kingdom emerged as the top three markets for India’s leather and leather goods exports. Shipments to the US were valued at $948.47 million, accounting for 21.74 per cent of the total exports in this category.

Germany was the second-largest market, with a share of 11.26 per cent, as India exported leather and leather goods worth $491.45 million there during the fiscal. Exports to the UK were valued at $402.55 million, representing 9.23 per cent of the total.

Among other top ten markets, India’s exports were as follows: Italy – $293 million (6.72 per cent), Spain – $240.26 million (5.51 per cent), France – $221.05 million (5.07 per cent), Netherlands – $211.56 million (4.85 per cent), China – $109.41 million (2.51 per cent), Belgium – $100.45 million (2.30 per cent), and the United Arab Emirates – $92.87 million (2.13 per cent).
