Employees complained of low salaries, adding that there is no difference between those who have worked for a long time and new employees, which demoralizes them.

They said there is lack of on job training and that management never held safety meetings with them.

They complained that most employees complained of TB related illnesses, saying some of their colleagues had died because of TB related ailments.

They said there are some workers who are enrolling for the TB treatment programme but the management is doing nothing to improve the situation.

The workers, who recently went on a one-day strike, said though they work hard, they are never given any increment.

They said they felt angry when then divisional manager Vic Vanzyl, who has since resigned, was quoted in the Daily News saying that their minimum wage stands at P3.15 though it was P300 by then.

They failed to give us a reason where they got the 15thebe,said one worker. They said though they had bonuses in the past, the new management has cancelled the system.

The workers told the MPs that though they are considered as a workers committee, they were never given a chance to choose committee members for themselves.

After the strike, the management refused to address us but rather picked representatives from each section but the painful part is that we are never allowed to hold meetings with workers.

For instance, the management couldhave given us a chance to address other workers concerning this visit, so that we can pass their grievances, they said.
