The industry is further poised for exponential growth on account of favourable domestic as well as international market, rising consumption and penetration of Brand India Image in more than 100 countries in the world.
Keeping all these growth factors in view, the Working Group on Textile Sector in its proposal for XI Plan has indicated a growth target of achieving a market size of US $ 115 billion by 2011-12 from the present level of US$ 47 billion.
The Working Group has also indicated incremental direct manpower requirement to the extent of 56.50 lakh trained persons in the clothing segment of the textile industry and incremental employment requirement for managerial, technical and administration positions to the order of 5.65 lakh persons as against the existing manpower of 0.85 lakh persons employed.
Therefore, there is a serious gap between the training needs of the clothing segments of the textile industry and the training provided by the existing Institutes both in terms of value and course contents.
