Kyocera, the highly respected Japanese corporation known for its cutting-edge technology in the field of fine ceramics, will launch Gyokuji - an exclusive collection of decorative items that revives Japanese ceramic art at this year's Dubai International Jewellery Week.
The much-awaited event is scheduled on December 11-15 at Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre.
Dr. Kazuo Inamori, Kyocera founder and creator of Gyokuji, remarks, “I have always kept my dream alive since I first started research on fine ceramics.
I wanted to create a new range of ceramic ware made from ruby, sapphire and other gems using the very latest technologies.
I also wanted to embellish these pieces with beautiful decorations and position them as contemporary gemware that would bring happiness to people around the world.
My lifelong dream has finally been fulfilled, and now we are able to present Gyokuji in the Middle East.”
The name Gyokuji is derived from gyoku, which means “jewel” in Japanese and jiki, which means “porcelain,” to refer to jewel-like ceramic ware made of corundum, a highly crystalline form of aluminum oxide, which is the exact same mineral found in ruby and sapphire.
Fine ceramics are known for their delicate and complicated unique manufacturing process. Gyokuji goes one step further to achieve qualities which are identical to those of natural gemstones.
Japanese pottery dates back to the neolithic Jomon period, when the earliest soft earthenware was coil-made, decorated by hand-impressed rope patterns and fired in the open.
