GDS, the German shoe exhibition that took place from 5 to 7th March 2006 in Duesseldorf, boasted an international visitor contingent of over 55 percent and an international exhibitor contingent of 80 percent.
Around 31,500 visitors from 72 countries came to GDS to gather in-depth information and place targeted orders.
Frank Hartmann, Board Member at Messe Düsseldorf, said, "We are delighted at participants' overall positive assessment of the 101st GDS despite some visitors staying home due to the terrible chaos caused by the snow in Southern Germany and neighbouring countries. We are particularly encouraged by the rise in contingents from EU countries like Belgium, France, the Netherlands and Spain as well as Eastern Europe.”
GDS was a particularly resounding success for renowned exhibitors in the premium segment. Fashion agency Klauser, for instance, delighted at good overall visitor numbers and numerous top buyers with its international premium brands like Silvia Bertolaja, La Martina and Pirelli making a début appearance.
And this mood was also echoed by Thomas Bergbauer, Product Manager of the international lifestyle label RENÉ LEZARD, "Although we already have a showroom in Düsseldorf we opted to also participate at the fair as here numerous international key account visitors are guaranteed.”
Simon Attwood, Key Account Manager at Church, said, "The platform is indispensable for exports and accessing new international customers.”
