Fairy Fashion

A new style has started to evolve in the corner streets of Harajuku. The style includes panniers, colorful socks, heart shaped accessories, with decorative ribbons. It seems quite pop yet sweet and is called the “Fairy Fashion”.

The origin of this style is from stores “6 percent Doki Doki” and “Spank!” The style did not start as being called the “Fairy Fashion”, but word of mouth and the work of the media came up with the term from what used to be a style that centered on the kids culture of the 80's.

The “Fairies” dress up in styles that Barbie and Bryce wears, and is interested in toys like My Little Pony. Girl's who grew up with pastel color trends from Narumiya ( a children's apparel maker) and are graduates of fashion institutes cover the majority of the fairy population.

These girls attend small forums “6 percent Doki Doki” hold every once in awhile that has their store attendants introduce their layering and styling in the “Fairy” styles. The girls attend to these lectures keenly and nowadays, magazines such as Zipper are starting to focus little by little on this new trend.

The style somewhat coincides with the once prevalent Lolita fashion with lingerie like items, tulle usage, and a mix of 80's taste. The style being most popular at Harajuku is no surprise as Harajuku is an area where most extreme styles reside; sometimes too extreme.

These girls mix pastel colors, panniers with polka-dot tights, mism-matched pastel knee socks with large ribbons in the hair, with Barbie printed T-shirts. The fairies walk down the streets of Harajuku as if it's a walk in a park, whilst others are wondering if it is Halloween.
