After the successful completion of the first programme in the series, the BSF would further organize training workshops of 5-12 days duration every month on various aspects of aesthetics, production and market, according to Mr Pikender Pal Singh, CEO, Business School of Fashion.

The other training modules would include interventions focusing on visual order, product conversion (accessories), visual thinking, product conversion (costumes), linear structure & construction, etc, he further added. It will also enable us to convert these self help groups into sustainable & reliable production hubs to cater to the global demand.

Apart from the skill upgradation initiative, we are also striving for converting these skills into marketable products in order to provide an assured return leading to ensure social security cover, he said.

It is well known that the traditional art of phulkari has been carried on for generations on the shoulders of this industrious and aesthetically-inclined village folk, who already possess the skill of embroidery. However, with the world turning into an oyster, BSF felt the need to engage them in a manner that their artistic expression finds audience at the global level.

As such, the main focus of the programme was to develop their colour sensibilities so that the traditional repertoire of embroidery skills and designs are in sync with the new global features of fashion.

The programme worked at enhancing the comprehension, ideation, analysis and aesthetic decision making skills of the craftswomen through a range of concept demonstrations, tasks and assignments, group discussions and presentations, and reviews and feedbacks.
