"An award like this is well overdue in a place like Australia where fashion Contributes to the local and export industry," said Melbourne-based designer And AFEA judge Gwendolynne Burkin.
"It is important that we assess the people who work behind the scenes, not Just the brand names. It's about recognising innovation, talent and hard work."
A prize valued at more than $40,000 was presented at the awards dinner at the Four Seasons Hotel in Sydney this week.
National winners received $2000 in cash, a trip To Singapore Fashion Week in 2007 for the three major winners, a $3000 Business coaching program, website design and marketing and business texts.
