The auditorium of the celebrity packed NCPA in Mumbai was turned into an Oriental Fantasy. Long rectangle lamps hung from the high ceiling as gentle notes of oriental music floated in the background.
The ramp was replaced by an elegantly sloping Japanese bridge. The show opened to a spectacular Oriental fashion fantasy by Narendra Kumar inspired by the vibrant colours of Lakme's Freespirit Spring/Summer 2007 range of colour collection.
Freespirit is a snazzy collection that transports women to the magical world of sophistication and seduction and candle lit events and theatre at night.
Freespirit is heady matte crème colours in a subtle and sensuous palette ranging from posh pinks to browns for the day and bold blues and mauves for the night.
From the opening glamorous creation, a pleated gold gown with a stunning Asian blue embroidered kimono coat worn by Bollywood's beautiful actor and Lakme Model, Katrina Kaif the scene was set for a dramatic collection by the master of fabric texturing and manipulation - Narendra Kumar.
Dedicating his creativity to the Freespirit woman of Lakme, Narendra presented a range of the most exquisitely crafted creations with colour tones from the east with Chinese brocades, Japanese parchment, Vietnamese wallpaper and gold from Thailand; and through it all were touches of gold that gave an opulent look to the garments.
The fabrics specially woven in antique gold had linen, silk, brocades, organzas, georgettes and cotton jacquards turned into dramatically designed dresses, skirts, blouses, jackets and coats .
