The footwear market of Saudi Arabia is valued at over US $600 million with about 15 footwear manufacturing units working at full capacities, the Kingdom's footwear industry is literally on the run.

A recent report states footwear makers produce over six million shoes each year, catering to only about 25 percent of the local demand.

Rest is imported from Brazil, China, Egypt, France, Greece, Italy, Lebanon, Thailand, Korea, Turkey and the United States.

Due to domestic demand, the Kingdom has already established itself as the largest apparel and leather market in the Middle East, the report said.

Major cities like Jeddah, Dhaharan, Afif, Ar`ar, Abha, Al Bahah, Buraydah, Ad Dammam and others flaunt dedicated shopping malls and super markets for leather goods and footwear products.
