Chinese jewellery glitters on exports

Chinese jewellery exports went up 24.99 percent over last year to reach US $4.96 billion.

During the January - November 2005 period, China exported metal jewellery worth US $1.826 billion, diamonds worth $1.278 billion and pearls pegged at $128 million.

Of total China's jewelry export 55.43 percent came from the Southern Guangdong Province, which added upto US $2.75 billion.

The export volume of Shandong Province, Shanghai and Beijing municipalities, Zhejiang, Hunan and Fujian provinces stood at US $512, 260, 207, 189, 173 and 169 million respectively.

Over 80 percent of jewelry sold in Hong Kong is processed and manufactured on the Chinese Mainland.
