During a bilateral meeting held in Tokyo last week, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and Japanese Prime Minister Ishiba Shigeru announced the launch of the ‘Cambodia-Japan Economic Co-Creation Package’. This initiative aims to improve the business environment in Cambodia and promote public-private partnership projects.
In January–March 2025, Cambodia accounted for 7.23 per cent of Japan’s total apparel imports, which were valued at $5.995 billion. Cambodia ranked third after China and Vietnam, according to Fibre2Fashion's market insight tool TexPro.
Japan’s apparel imports from Cambodia rose by 24.06 per cent compared to $349.850 million in the same quarter of the previous year, while the country’s total apparel imports grew by only 7.41 per cent during the period.
Cambodia also held the third-largest supplier position in the first quarter of last year and throughout 2024, when Japan’s total apparel imports stood at $22.907 billion and imports from Cambodia reached $1.259 billion. Cambodia’s share was 6.26 per cent in Q1 2024 and 5.50 per cent for the full year, as per TexPro.
Previously, Cambodia was the fourth-largest supplier in 2023 and the fifth largest in 2022, with market shares of 4.74 per cent and 4.81 per cent, respectively. Japan’s total apparel imports were valued at $23.712 billion in 2023 and $25.001 billion in 2022, while imports from Cambodia were $1.124 billion in 2023 and $1.202 billion in 2022.
