In the first quarter of 2024, the Dominican Republic had exported garments worth $134.302 million, accounting for 73.26 per cent of its total garment exports of $183.360 million in that period, according to Fibre2Fashion's market insight tool TexPro.
In the first quarter of the current year, the country’s total apparel exports stood at $165.576 million, down 9.83 per cent compared to the same period last year. As total garment exports from the Dominican Republic declined, the US share increased to 81.35 per cent. As a neighbouring country, the Dominican Republic enjoys strong trade relations with the US, making it the top destination for its garment exports.
In 2024, the Dominican Republic's total garment exports reached $822.241 million, of which 72.35 per cent—or $594.900 million—were shipped to the US. This represented a 6.59 per cent decrease from $880.822 million in 2023. Exports to the US also declined by 7.18 per cent from $640.295 million in 2023.
The country also exported home textiles worth $22.187 million in the first quarter of this year, with the US accounting for $14.828 million, or 66.83 per cent, of that total, as per TexPro.
In terms of imports, the Dominican Republic imported apparel worth $39.067 million in the first quarter of 2025. Of this, 49.13 per cent—or $19.192 million—came from China, making it the largest supplier. The US was the second-largest supplier with a 13.94 per cent share. Additionally, the Dominican Republic imported home textiles worth $34.303 million, including $15.597 million from the US, which remained its largest supplier.
