Italy had exported coats of $1,067.386 million in the corresponding period of the last year. The trade had beached a mark of $1 billion for the past several years, according to Fibre2Fashion’s market insight tool TexPro.
During the first quarter of this year, the shipment of trousers & shorts was $831.256 million (15.00%), jerseys $732.562 million (13.22%), shirts $559.523 million (10.10%) and T-shirts $460.185 million (8.30%). The shipment of trousers & shorts also dipped 26.86 per cent from $1,136.577 million in the first quarter of the last year. Among top five items, the shipment of jerseys, shirts and T-shirts also came down up to 25 per cent. The exports of jerseys were $980.356 million, shirts $718.976 million and T-shirts $609.954 million in January-March 2024.
The country’s total apparel exports dipped 24.07 per cent to $5,541.087 million in the first three months of this year. The outbound shipment was valued at $7,298.542 million in the same period of the last year.
Italian garment exports were slightly lower at $27.797 billion in the last year against the exports of $27.926 billion in 2023. The country had exported garments of $26.223 billion in year 2022 which grew 6 per cent in the following year.
As per TexPro, Europe was the largest market for the exports. Italy has exported garments of $3,096.695 million to Europe, in the first quarter of this year. It was 55.65 per cent of the total. But, as a single country, US was the top market for the outbound shipment, which contributed 10.77 per cent of the total exports. The trade to US was valued at $599.241 million in the said period.
