According to Fibre2Fashion's market insight tool TexPro, Cambodia exported apparel worth $216.688 million during January-March 2024, which was 13.89 per cent of its total shipment of $1.559 billion in the same period. The nation had exported apparel worth $1.124 billion to Japan, which was 10 per cent of its total exports of $11.242 billion in the last year.
In 2019, the shipment was valued at $1.147 billion, which was 9.98 per cent of the total exports of $11.497 billion. Japan was the second-largest market for these shipments after the United States. Cambodia’s total apparel shipment and exports to Japan saw a decline in 2020, falling to $9.671 billion and $1.043 billion, respectively. However, Japan’s share in the shipment increased to 10.79 per cent in 2020.
Cambodia’s apparel exports to Japan recovered to $1.105 billion in the following year, representing 10.54 per cent of its total exports of $10.482 billion. Cambodia’s total apparel exports rose to $12.903 billion in 2022. But shipments to Japan saw only mild gains, reaching $1.201 billion, representing a 9.31 per cent share of the total. Thus, Canada replaced Japan as the second-largest market, pushing Japan to the third position in Cambodia’s apparel exports. Cambodia’s total apparel shipments and exports to Japan eased in 2023, but Japan’s share returned to 10 per cent, as per TexPro.
